    Actually, I'm not sure.

    Here's what happens:

Every few minutes (with no prompting) Internet Explorer opens and starts trying to open hundreds of tabs that lead to the same website. It opens these tabs so quickly that I pretty much have to wait until its done to do anything because it lags my system.

I've done multiple spyware and virus scans and both have reviled nothing.

    Any suggestions?

    get a hammer?

but seriously, if you can't clean the system inside the OS, consider wiping it with some fdisk or reformat action and call it good. if that's not viable, look for other anti-viral software or definitions and search again.

question, what site is it trying to bring you too..... this may be helpful and finding the source file that keeps trying to throw your system to the wolves of the internet virus and spy world.

Format the computer, reinstall everything from backups. This will remove the malware unless your backups are infected.

This leads me to believe that it is not malware but a trojan or virus. I would run a trojan remover and see if that works.

I've come to the conclusion that I just need to reformat.

....which I would do if I knew where the fuck I put my XP CD's.
