Its pretty cool. Combining MMO and a card game. I know we have a few TCG fans, thus the topic. http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/cze/hex-mmo-trading-card-game
Was just about to post this : P. I'll watch the kickstarter and wait for more information but beyond that it looks rather interesting. Been thinking about not getting into any more traditional MMOs for a little while until Camelot Unchained release (hopefully), but this looks different enough to keep me entertained and amused. I loved cards growing up even thought they costed an arm and a leg (and I still play tabletop) but always avoided alot of TCG products because they never felt whole in their digital version. The question is what level to back....questions questions....
The humor is awesome. I like the idea of what they are doing, whether it will work or not is to be seen, but its interesting. The only bad thing about new card games is that it is hard to design a quality card game after everyone has played Magic. Troops are lame compared to creatures and actions can't hold a candle to spells. Even the terminology is depressing when compared to the #1 card game ever printed.
http://hextcg.com/ Playthrough: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SfOfGvkdzlI Decided to pledge, I used to play Magic for many many years growing up and kicked the habit after high school. I like how Hex has a similar system, but enough new interesting abilities that come about because it is digital (extra cards into play/aka tokens basically) and interesting effects that make building a deck less about micromanaging thousands of paper cards. Basically the system is close enough to Magic to pick up and play in the first ten minutes, and hopefully different enough to justify playing a different game. Raid content looks interesting, and expanding card play to a world rather than just matches could provide a fun side activity to tournaments. Why no one has done this with table top gaming like Warhammer 40K or Warmachine boggles my mind... It also helps me to keep away from other MMOs for awhile, and provides a nice stepping stone of side entertainment until Camelot Unchained comes out in 2+ years. Names are just names. Nobody cares in an MMO if the melee tank class is called a 'Warrior', 'Fighter', or goodness knows what other named variation. Edit: The success of the game will really be about the business model they go with, along with how much they can incorporate the advantage of digital play into the game.
People dislike games for silly reasons all the time. People dislike Korean games because the characters look "asian". But, even that wasn't the point of my statement which was really that it will be hard to create a card game when Magic is still so popular. Everything they do will be compared to it just as other card games were. I am not saying it will fail, but rather they have an uphill battle. Hopefully they pull it off.
To be honest, if Magic did a similar thing first I will be completely on board for it. Shame Wizards just sits on their giant pile of money sometimes...hopefully 5th Edition D&D isn't poo.
So, does anyone else have any thoughts on this game? Im thinking of pledging, but i never played MTG. Only played duals of the plainswalker and it was abit stale and boring after few hours.
True. But Magic is limited by being a game played with physical cards and only having humans and tokens for the bookkeeping. Hex does not have that limitation, allowing it to easily pull off things that are too much of a hassle, or simply aren't possible in in a physical TCG. For example, imagine a card that does something that only some cards can do without your opponent getting to see exactly which card it is. How would you implement that in a physical TCG ? That is what allows Hex to be a quality TCG. By remembering that they can do things that Magic can't/won't. Though it also opens up a lot of opportunity for bad decisions that Magic can't/won't make.
Magic, Yugioh, .Hack, and I forgot the name of the other one. 4 TCG's I got into for a time period. I have this overwhelming urge to want to own every single card released. To me its a massive money dunk and I cant allow myself to get into another TCG no matter how fun it may look. LOL
The money sink is why I've avoided taking part in TCGs. Has anyone here played the WoW TCG ? Or any of their other products ?
Alpha is suppose to be out at the end of this month. Hopefully it will be without any push backs. Any other Xen members kickstarted?
