k, so right now my bottleneck is my cpu, intel core 2 duo e6750 no idea what would be a decent upgrade option but my budget is arround £100 (£130 at a push) my gfx card is an 8800 GT but it is the zotac AMP edition, it is modified with extra vents and a bigger better fan/cooling system pushing performance slightly above the 8800 GTX. i am looking at buying this 260 feel free to suggest other options arround the same price.
I'm using a 8800gt as well and its served me great so far. I have a core 2 duo 3.0ghz wolfdale additionally. I've been wanting to upgrade for a while (after I got my 360 I lost interest but its coming back) That 260 has clocks at about 590 core which is still really good (for the card), but if you can and don't mind spending a little bit more this is what I've been trying to decide on the past few months: (I tried using the site you linked but it won't load correctly here at work so I'm using NewEgg for the time being, product numbers/models should be similiar) This is the "low end" version that probably has a superoverclocked model that is similiar to what you linked: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130398 But, in this case (NewEgg) you can spend about $10 more and get faster clock speeds: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130433 Of course, you probably won't be able to tell too much, I'm not that big of a tech guru (I'm trying though) - but its a nice little upgrade for your money. Also, if you do go with that card, or a similiar one, I think nVidia is going to be releasing their new series soon, so prices for the GTX's should drop (hopefully, probably when I will buy) - and second, make sure your case is big enough, these cards are about 11" I believe, but if you have a spacious mid-tower case you should be okay, might have to work your cables around it. Hope that helped somewhat.. at least for the graphic card.
Question.. if your bottleneck is your CPU.. why not upgrade the CPU instead? You have a decent enough vid card there... I think you can find a decent quad core for around that same price.. Don't have time to look it up right now as I am about to head to class, but yeah..
True, but core 2 duo's are still good right now, mine still runs most games very well, it is a bit faster, but the 2.66 isn't terrible, you could probably O/C just a bit and still be fine. Why do you think your CPU is the bottleneck? Are there problems??
i have low fps issues in some games, for example aion i am lucky to get 30 fps on the high end of mid settings. and i stated in my first post i need advice on cpu too, and i have arround £100 - £130 to spend on one, and then roughly the same again to spend on a gfx card.
Apologies, I just left info for the gfx card. I'll look into processors, but I never had problems with my wolfdale c2d 3.0 with my 8800gt in Aion. I mean, I'm not saying you're 'wrong' - but maybe its something else - I'm not sure. The only problems I had was during Fort raids, but even people with brand spankin' new high-end machines were having problems as well, crashing and what-not. I normally got around 60-140fps doing 'normal' things. How much ram ya got?
4gb ram. my machine "should" be able to perform alot better than it does. im not sure why so im just gonna systematticaly upgrade it peice by peice till im happy. GPU and CPU first then PSU, mobo then ram.
Yeah, I agree with this statement, and I've felt the same about my rig a few times. Sometimes its the engine/software, but - it is frustrating. I'll look around, but let me know if you upgrade and it "fixes" it for you, I'm curious.
i figured out why i was getting such low FPS and im a retard... i had vsync enabled, only noticed last night it was ticked >_> now im sitting at arround 80-90 fps.
