Okay i have been watching this game with a partial eye and i am becoming more curious. So as a huge fan of Freespace, and Eve. Why should i be hyped by SC? what is its plans? when is it going to be available? and how would i get involved? Is it still some silly models slowly coming online or what.
Where's Rookie when you need him!? I'd try to explain but I doubt I would do it well in any way shape or form. And Hi amish. We miss you.
and i miss you like the desert misses the rain! basically how soon is it MP playable? I am not adverse to droping 60$ to jump in early, if there is something worthwhile in the next month or so.
But if it rained in the desert it wouldn't be a desert anymore! Well the Dog Fighting Module is out this week. The MP portion is starting out with a limited number of players and will be scaled up as things move along. Don't know by how much or when, sadly. But the single player portions are going to come out for everyone on the same day. If you buy a ship you now also have to buy an Arena Commander(DFM) Pass which is an extra 5$ because you didn't jump on the crazy train soon enough. Which was probably smart of you. Be warned. If you drop 60 bucks for the first ship and start reading about the game and other ships you will end up spending HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS. Currently there are over 450k members and they've raised 44million off of them.
Star Citizen is about taking the concepts of economy from EVE and transplanting that into a space simulator with real time targeting. You can black out by pulling too many G's and can duck in and out of asteroids while dodging enemy fire. There are several types of ships from bombers to fighters depending on our proficiency at fps combat. So think EVE but with FPS style combat.
Dog Fighting Module (DFM) will be released within the next week or so. They are just trying to get it prepared for a "smooth" launch. You will need to purchase a Ship Pledge package and then purchase a Arena Commander Pass for access to the DFM Alpha. Initial access will be a PVE version, all people will get a standard Hornet to fight in and I think if you have an Aurora or a 300i package those are flyable as well. Your Star Citizen ID# will dictate how soon you gain access to the Multiplayer battles. Here is a You Tube Link to the Pax East Reveal, they had some issues, but over all not to bad for an Alpha showing I would guess the game would be totally released by 2016, but they are planning to release it in modules. There will be a FPS aspect to the game when boarding ships, not sure if it will be planetside as well. So in a way its like Freelancer/Privateer, Wing Commander, EVE. Corps/people can "own" factories, but the factory builds a certain in-game item, such as missiles for example. You act more like a factory manager. You will both PVE and PVP to deal with, there is a slider you can set to determine how much PVP you want. But I also think they will have high sec areas like EVE and Null Sec open war zones as well. Mining, Trading, Bounty Hunting, New Jump Point Exploration ( you can sell coords to these to people). Right now, some of the Rig requirements to run this stuff at the high video quality levels are pretty steep. If you have a older rig, it may not handle this game to well. I doubt this game can run on a Laptop. Full HOTAS Support, Planned Full Oculas Rift Support, 3 monitor video support. I think even 4k level video. Full 64 bit, must have Win 64bit version. Thats a real rough outline, its supposed to be much more deep than this, Chris Roberts has a dream to make this the best MMO ever. We shall see !!
After reading your description I feel as though I just told him it was a space game in my reply...hehe...nice write-up.
so.. FX6100 6 core radeon 7700 8 gigs of ram Pretty sure i can handle it on medium. So done some research and want some opinions. If i purchase a ship package what is a decent one? is the Avenger worth the $80 price tag? or the 300i decent? More looking for slightly versatile but towards combat piracy/antipiracy probably.
I was sleeping. Saved the universe over the weekend, was pretty tired. Daith did a great writeup, but a few things: Dogfighting came out early this morning. Almost. If you've got something bigger (price-wise) than the hornet, that's what you get. Otherwise you get whatever is equivalent for your price range if your ship isn't available. "Released" is misleading. The persistent universe beta should go live late 2015, and once it goes live there will have to be a major issue for it to get wiped. As of now, there is no intent to wipe when transitioning to live so that the economy is already fully engaged on "day 1". They have confirmed that there will be planet-based FPS combat. There have been almost zero details about it though. Note that there will still be an encounter regardless of your slider, it's just going to determine whether you fight a player or an NPC imitation of that player. Radeon 7700m? That might be rough. If you mean 7770 or 7790 or something else, maybe on low. I'm concerned if my GTX 570 will make it on medium. I'm not sure if the Cutlass is still available, but that sounds like what you might want. Otherwise, the 300i is a great jack-of-all-trades ship. I've never been a fan of the Avenger. Shoot me a PM if you want me to jump in TS anytime after 7 EST. Just to note, between my personal hangar and the money I put towards the XOO capital ships, I'm over $1K into this game.
as a reference on very high my rig at 1080p runs around 45 - 60 FPS and on high 55-70 FPS in combat and out of combat free roam higher
It seems the cutlass gives the 300i in the DFM. I only own a super-hornet, scout, and cutlass but I also have a 300i available. I got a cutlass because of everything about it. It's tougher, has a tractor beam to get to those ships, a cargo hold to hold some infantry, and a docking collar to board some mother fucking ships! Now I just need a boarding shield 40k style. I plan on using it for exploring and scavaging too. Just fighting in my hornet and well scouting in my scout. Or asteroid security.
Good clean up of my summary, there is so much info from weekly, daily videos etc, its hard to keep track of all the things they are planning.
