http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/core-i7-4770k-haswell-performance,3461.html tl:dr; 7-13% performance increase. For High End Users: Enthusiast CPU(-E) are still the clear winners. If you are on sandy/ivy then the upgrade isn't going to blow your mind, but as someone(like myself) looking to upgrade an older rig then June isn't exactly far off to wait.
Nobody cares about stock performance How does it overclock! That is the real question computer enthusiasts are wanting to know.
Well, it's quite plainly an upgrade. Not worth it over Ivy, but it is better. That's pretty much always been the case. Upgrading after one cycle is nearly always marginal. I imagine it will do better overclocking than Ivy, given that the 22nm should have had some time to get cleaned up. I don't see Ivy as the OC disaster other paint it as, you're 5-10% better per clock than Sandy already so 4.5ghz Ivy is like 4.7-4.9ghz Sandy. My 3570K @ 4.1ghz and stock voltage never went above 51C on the stock cooler...Of course now with the H220 @4.5 I never even hit 40... (And, also, don't forget that although Ivy may get hotter in temperature, it does put out less heat) Anyway, Haswell may also be the last Intel desktop CPU that's available in a socket which means it'll be interesting to see what goes on a year from now. I'm unsure how much that'll actually matter...I've never upgraded CPUs without changing the motherboard as well.
Looks good, standard increase in performance. The big questions for haswell are the other details tho: Solder or TIM for the heatsink, will it run "hot" like ivy? BCLK straps, The new onchip voltage regulation, the IMC (since its the last of the DDR3 chips) and of course general overclocking from these. As excited as this may be, I'm more excited about the rumor that ivy bridge-E may be skipped, and go strait to haswell-E, all those cool features plus ~40+ lanes.
I hope they go back to solder but who knows ~.~ I'll be replacing the TIM on my chip at some point in the next couple months with some coollaboratory liquid ultra. Depends on when the H320 is released. @Rbstr I do believe they have told the enthusiasts not to worry about their LGA going anywhere.
