http://www.warhammeralliance.com/legal/Complaint.pdf http://www.warhammeralliance.com/forums/showthread.php?t=326733&page=2 source: http://warhammer40konline.net/ Curse did some baaaaaad things. To bad the the community has to suffer for it.
They made money off trademarked stuff. Basically it's like if I started selling shirts with Warhammer trademarks on them to fans. Except with advertisements and a few other things. Curse doesn't make these sites just because they love us. They make them because there's money to be made. Why do you think they only make hubs for games that are over hyped?
I'm confused. Is Curse awesome and you hope they get money? Or is Curse terrible and you hope GW gets money? Or is Curse awesome and you hope GW gets money.
OK guys, this thing is a very slippery slope. While each may have their opinion on Curse or GW, there are some important implications here. Let us not forget that GW offers fansite kits to put banners, ad, and hotlinks into your very own site, if you wish. THese are all trademarked materials. Now let us suppose you run the site, get a few subscribers, pay for it through your webhost, and then put in a Paypal donation symbol up in the corner to defray your time and expense. If, through that donation link, you made more than your costs, would you give the money to GW?/ Hell, would you give a portion even if it wasn't above your costs?? The spirit of this lawsuit goes exactly there. think about it rationally and you may see that no matter what your personal view of Curse/WHA or even GW, the lawsuit is a bad deal across the board for all gamers in general.
Nothing to see here. GW has been on this kick for about a year now with their miniatures fan sites and such. This is just the first major one to hit the MMO side of the hobby and many people are thinking it's a big deal. This is nothing new for GW.
