Article here. I am looking for an in depth analysis on whether it would make sense to purchase the above mentioned video card or whether it makes more sense to SLI something else. I am a computer guy and researched it a bit, but I would love to get additional opinions.
Hm u should post it on tech talk but imho this is a total waste of money. The difference between this and the 780 TI is just not there and u can get a 780 TI GHZ edition that's just about the same. For Wildstar too it's not really needed, it runs very fine on 1440p with just one 780 (not TI).
I realized that I posted this in the wrong section, but it wouldn't let me delete it. I've asked that it be moved to Tech Talk.
Just like with the original Titan, I think $999 is an insane price for a video card. That said, I would love a beast like that in my PC. If you're willing to spend that much on a card, I'd get with the single-card configuration over SLI. SLI can be great, but it's also still a bit wonky in some games, especially newer ones where the profiles aren't optimized.
As Doxy said, the 780Ti is a better card for gaming on 1080p or even 1440p. The special thing about the Titan Black over a 780Ti is the Titan has fully unlocked double precision floating point performance, as well as twice the vram. Nothing else is different. Double Precision is not used very much in games because it is almost never needed, the stuff that uses it a lot are CUDA apps, specialized server software, special workstation software, and specialized scientific software. So unless you are doing a lot of that, the extra couple hundred Dollars is not worth the cost for something you dont need. Unless you plan on upgrading to a 4K monitor within the next year I wouldnt go with the Titan Black at all. And even if you do plan on that, you better be buying two Titan Blacks right now then before they go EOL because you still need two of them to get decent frame rates on 4K resolution. Erock is getting very good frames per second with the beta build of Wildstar and un-optimized drivers using a single 780Ti. Once the game launches it should get even better performance. Also he is getting acceptable FPS as I said, but using triple 1080p monitors. So on a single screen setup, even a single 1440p monitor it should get plenty good FPS. Another option as you said is SLI. Two GTX760's do perform better in most cases than a single 780Ti, and are cheaper and have more vram (if you buy the 4GB versions). It is up to you if you want to deal with the "hassle" of SLI though. Every once in a while it can be a pain, especially since people like to beta test MMO's which never have working SLI profiles yet. But those times are few and far between. I have SLI right now and it is fine. I dont know if I will do it again in the future or not, it depends on how good a deal a big powerful single card is over two lesser cards in whatever next generation I buy from happens to be.
Aye i run perfectly fine on 1440p currently on WS, i hit my 48 FPS cap that i put on my 96hz screen with everything maxed out (their special render detail thing at 1.5 and scene detail at 6, not sure what they mean but it's the stuff that changes the most my FPS when i change it). Edit : i don't even have a 780 Ti, i got a 780 Ghz edition, which is close but not as good.
since i talk with enigma and a regular basis now while I am bored at work My computer has drastically changed ... The 780 ti should be more than enough for most games out ... I was running wildstar with high settings at 3240 x 1920 with 70-105 FPS ... As we have discussed ill be with my 780ti till next gen comes out ( I can swap stuff at work ) but one thing I will say ... after having a single R9 290 and than adding another to my machine I HATED the AMD drivers and just overall quality of the cards ... ran super hot crashed a buncha times and just was not enjoyable experience. Not only that but 2 of my friends from work have experienced the same thing with the 290 cards both in single and crossfire.
Haha i'll use my Matrox then. So, Erock u gave up ur AMD for a 780 Ti ? Wowzie. It's good to be able to swap stuff at work !
yeah it is very good to swap at work ... I also have been in direct contact with AMD since I traded it in ... I actually had a mini conference call with our buddies from north of the border ... they was chilling at an airport during the call I had tons of issues with crossfire and portrait eyefinity ... Driver support was pretty bad and I had to redo drivers numerous times and the cards crashed a ton 2 of the 3 of us swapped to the 780 ti one is getting new 290 cards direct from AMD next week
