Need a new graphics card. I was looking arround GeForce cause I usually tweak them to work like a Quadro (for the open gl, which previous series years ago didnt support) My computer knowledge is generic. So in terms of benchmarking information or really "in-depht" specs, I DONT understand a word. So I did some limited research for my new pc, I was opting for keeping my old reliable 3 year old geforce 8600 tweaked to a Quadro 1700 but my budget is already at 1500 u$s. So I though... why the heck not investing 150-200 u$s more for a brand "new" card. Just in case some backup information is needed for what will the card be used at, I work in MotionGraphics / high-low poli 3D modeling, and of course a high-end game lover. I usually opt for QUALITY over performance, but I switch a lot depending what will the usage be. Not a fan of overclocking, some old storys involving lots of smoke and a cpu are not fun to recall. SO... whats better? any others suggestions ? (both arround the same price) Nvidia Geforce 9800gt 1024mb 256bit Ddr3 Pci-e or PCI-E 1GB HD4850 PWC Some fast responses will be apreciated and Ill make sure you get a free cookie if you do so.
I've been looking for a new card as well. The GTX+ 9800 cards have better core clock and memory clocks then some of the 200 series cards. I've also learned (Thanks Tommy) and read (thanks Tom's Hardware) that the HD4xxx have VERY VERY good and higher core / memory clock speeds then an equivalent nVidia card. But - I mean, I'm not an expert - Nvidia Drivers > ATI from what I've read as well, and the Radeon cards are a bit cheaper. Depends on what you want, if you multitask a lot and want a "better" driver, shoot for a decent 9 series GTX+ Geforce card, but if you want a good bang for your buck single/triple - task GPU shoot for a higher end Radeon (4850 I think??) I'll probably get flamed cause I don't know about all this 100%, but that's what I've learned the past few days shopping for my new card. Good luck!
Thnx for everyone in vent for the help GeForce GTS 250 OC Video Card - 1024MB GDDR3, PCI Express 2.0, (2) Dual Link DVI, SLI Ready Going for that... and in case anyone else needs assistance its basically the same as 9800 but OC and with a different name. /Closed for me at least
yeah the entire naming crap with nvidia is pissing me off... they are playing the 2xx series as a new line, but really they fit in the same line up as the 8xxx / 9xxx series (and the 9xxx series had serious overlap with the 8xxx series...) The last card I was sure of what I was getting was my 8800gtx... and then their marketing dept. changed everything or something lol... My friend has a 260 and runs duel 24 inch lcds with no lag in WoW at all. I run duel 22inch lcds with my 8800gt and had no problems in WoW even duel boxing on the same PC. I can run duels in Eve Online without a problem as well. BTW, cool sig Herak
Nevermind, found it (if you are getting the EVGA one): http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130469 Wow, the clock speeds on this are better then most of the 260 GTX's... I know that gfx companies have to release a card every 18 or so months (my dad worked for 3d labs for years) - but still... what gives? Here's a review on that card I posted above: "Pros: Great card. Replaced my 8800 GTS SLI setup with one of these babies. Right now theres a nice price on these. Was about to buy a 512 MB 9800 GTX+ but these are only about 10-15 bucks more for 1 GB on the same GPU." I might be following in your footsteps.
