I got it in the mail Monday. Total surprise since i never got the shipping notice via email Only thing that sucks is i left for the finger lakes the same night so won't have a chance to play with it for a couple days I might get a brief moment to check it out on my girlfriends laptop.
It seems a good thing, but it's limited to air apps now ? It could be awseome when devs will use it as an input for games.
You can use it for whatever you want, just program different motions to be keyboard controls and you can play a game with just your hands in the air. One video I saw shows someone playing something like Countr-Strike or some other shooter game (cant remember) with just their one hand. They clenched their fist to shoot.
I might not get a chance until Monday now to really dig into it Family stuff today/tomorrow then off to a cottage for the long weekend After 5 minutes of messing about I can tell it will take a while to get used to and it won't be a replacement for a mouse any time soon, more of an accessory to the mouse. Finger detection is what I would expect of it. Obviously if you bring 2 fingers close together they will disappear. You are able to navigate the windows 7 environment with it and the on screen queues are easy enough to follow. It's just a matter of learning where the zones are and having a steady hand.
OS control has been pretty poor so far and I haven't used it a whole lot because of this. I have remained hopeful and check every now and then for new programs people have made. Right now I am messing around with a program called pointable which is another alternative for OS control. So far I would have to say that it is the best of the bunch. There is another that I am interested in but will give Pointable a thorough run through first. Here is a video of how to interact with windows through pointable. A good walkthrough for pointable. The other one I will look into is called airinput. It looks like it uses a similar control scheme. I knew this wasn't going to be a home run out of the gate and that it would take time for people to figure out the best method of control. After using this program I have more hope that it can be a viable replacement for the mouse while navigating the OS.
It is for the most part. The browser navigation is actually pretty fluid. It still isn't a mouse replacement and it's going to take someone more imaginative than myself to figure out what an OS built for this type of interaction would look like. As I said, this is the best so far. I'll keep playing around with it as it develops for sure. For my PC set up the interaction is a little unnatural, it would be ideal if it was built into a laptop between the screen and keyboard.
