ok so i just bought a new overclocked gtx 460 however it only works if i can 3 of my 4 1gb sticks of ram installed. if i put 3 in it works perfectly, 4 and it flip flops each reboot between error code 12 and 35. (12 being not enough resources, 35 being firmware is not capable of assigning resources.) my motherboard is ConRoe1333-eSATA2 OS is vista 64bit any ideas?
Sounds like an issue with the motherboard to me. It really sounds like a bios issue with allocating memory. Look fot a setting that has to do with a mem limit, or mem remapping, etc. I know many older boards I owned had a setting for remapping around the 4GB memory hole.
cant seem to find anything, ill have a harder look later when i get back from work. i have had 4gb of mem for the last few years though with no issue
Did it boot fine previously to installation of your 460? With 4gigs of your RAM? In other words, is the 460 the only new variable causing the problems?
How much memory was on your old graphics card? And does it not boot as in not getting to the post screen? Or is the error code showing up on the post screen?
512 i think. it boots just fine, monitor works plugged into it too. but i get no display adapter listed in divice manager. seems like the 4th memory stick is conflicting with the gfx cards build in memory.
My theories: 1) Some sort of IRQ conflict, kinda unlikely. 2) A bios problem mapping the memory properly 3) The card is broken, although if it works perfect 100% of the time when only 3GB are installed then this probably isnt the case. 4) Vista install is broken.
ruled out 3 and 4, 2 cards, identical, same problem. reinstalled vista to rule out 4 and no joy. latest bios update, so it shouldnt be a problem with that. an IRQ issue is seeming the most likely. also found tonnes of posts with similar issues but not with my specific hardware. no solutions though. i was lucky to stumble across a post stating to try removing a stick of ram.
Would be interesting to see if two, 2GB sticks caused the same problem as four, 1GB sticks. You dont happen to have and laying around do you? If a lot of other people have the problem, and with other graphics cards, it may be some underlying problem with the MB that just has never been addressed.
different motherboards. i dont have 2x2gb sticks handy and im wary of going and buying 2 for it to not work. ill wait for the email to come back from the mb manufacturer and see what they say
Could there be an issue with the voltage through the north bridge and or memory? I know when running 8 gigs with my GFX card it is suggested to bump the memory voltage and the bridge voltage.
my bios seems fairly limited with things i can change. not sure what setting to look for, and not really confident i could make changes without breaking something. but it sounds like a plausible idea.
