So a while ago i upgraded my pc, sometime ago i started monitoring my memory usage while experiencing lag and slower loading times in windows and some applications. Sofar im seeing my ram usage is almost maxed out at the current 8gigs i have, while gaming its almost maxed. cleaned my system, decided to run less applications at the same time but still see about 6gigs used when running TERA, Chrome with couple of tabs open, TS, Xfire, itunes/winamp (decided to go back to winamp since it uses less memory). so the memory i got i want to expand to 16gigs. G.Skill Sniper Series 8192Mb DDR3/1600 Dual Kit Dual Channel Kit 8192Mb DDR3 (2x 4096Mb) 1600MHz, PC12800, 240Pin CL7-8-7-24 is what i got in my system now, unfortunatly i cant find any shop in the neighborhood (The Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, UK, France) that sells it online. so my guess is that i will have to get 16 gig of new ram, any recommendations? mobo P8P67pro B3 rev.
This site should sell to wherever you live in Europe: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-015-MK&groupid=701&catid=8&subcat=1517 That RAM kit isnt the exact same ones, but it is the same speed and slightly better timings. I dont think the voltages match up properly but you wont be damaging the GSkills by running them at 1.65v so it wont really matter too much. At the higher voltage you can probably even run those GSkill sticks at the same 7-7-7-24 timings those Mushkin's have.
yes, unless you can find the exact model and revision for sale somewhere. It will only take 2 or 3 minutes and is really easy. No big deal Enter bios and go to the performance and tweaks section Set VDIMM to 1.65v go into the subtimings or advanced timings menu Set CAS to 7 tRCD to 8 tRP to 7 tRAS to 24 if it boots (which it will), go back and set tRCD to 7 and run like that. If you dont crash or any other problems it is stable. If you have issues then set tRCD back to 8. tRCD is the hardest to get to a low number on almost all RAM chips now days, so even though you give the old sticks an extra .15v it still has a chance of not being stable down all the way to 7.
thanks Enigma, but 1 more question. wouldnt it be cheaper to get http://www.alternate.nl/html/product/G.Skill/16_GB_DDR3-1600_Quad-Kit/984610/? and after reading: http://aphnetworks.com/reviews/g_skill_ares_f3_1600c8q_16gab_4x4gb unfortunatly all those techy specs arent too clear for me
Didnt read the article yet, but you can get those four sticks. I was just thinking keep your two sticks you already have and just get another kit and manually match the timings yourself. So its cheaper if you do it that way. But if you really care about having all of them matches from the factory then those GSKill Ares sticks will be really good.
Are they? I dont know your exchange rates so I wouldnt know. I just know the Mushkins were £70 after tax, the ones you linked are €125. I know € is Euro, dont know what £ is
Hmm. Well its up to you if you want matched chips or not. If there is an issue in compatibility it will most likely work at the rated speeds, and just be a limit on your overclocking. And the issue would arise from your old chips more than the Mushkin's, Those Redlines are top end stuff. IMO there is nothing better on the market. GSkill Sniper's are also pretty rare, high end chips too though. But it is still two separate kits. Either way I think it will work out fine, but all sticks the same would look nicer in your tower. You also may want to look at these: http://www.alternate.nl/html/product/Corsair/16_GB_DDR3-1600_Kit/1000995/?tk=7&lk=3327 Then use just those sticks to get your 16GB. This would allow you to upgrade to 32GB later if you want to. Timings may look bad, but it really doesnt matter at all. A Sandy Bridge processor doesnt care in the slightest about tight or loose timings. And the price is right in between the kit you posted and what I had earlier suggested.
