Apparently there had been a random number of attacks in my quiet, peaceful neighborhood recently over the last month. You know what they were taking? GPS devices. They see your suction cup, or whatever in the windshield, and then they break the window and take it. This happened to me at about 4 am this morning, they broke my dad's driver window, took the GPS, roughed up the car, and took my dads brand new Dingo Leather boots that he got while my mom and him were on vacation. He got himself the boots, because he wanted to get back to driving his hog. Then, they go to my car, wipe the front windshield and look in my car, needless to say, I have a 300$ XM Radio sitting in my car with the antenna sitting on the roof, and they did not even take that. But the worst part is, I was awake when it happened, I heard my dogs bark, but because they bark at everything, I just told them to shutup and go back to bed. Did not even hear them breaking in the car. So because of their little stunt, we had to spend close to 800 bucks getting everything fixed and situated. So folks, please be careful if you have a GPS or any other suction looking electronic device in your windshield. They will break into your car and not give a crap about you, and take it from you.
Why GPS's? Are they planning some large scale location finding party? Seems like a stupid thing to randomly steal.
Because they're a godsend. Honestly those things are useful as hell. But that sucks Cox :/, i'm sorry mostly about your dads Boots!
Ya I dont use the suction cup at all. And ive tinted my windows so they cant see my nice stereo setup. But that sucks man. I also have a cover with a lock on my car and a fancy new alarm system. My friends think im paranoid.
No, GPS's now a days are coming programmed with Puerto Rico, And other countries sometimes, and people make a killing on them. The cops said this one guy, back when 07s were brand new, would sell these GPS's at about 200 bucks a pop, and get the cables for them, for like 10 bucks a pop, and bought a brand new at the time, acura TSX fully loaded and everything. So people make a killing breaking into cars and selling them for near full value. Also, my dad didn't even get a chance to wear the boots, they had just gotten back from vacation, and they were still in the box. Lucky thing for us though, my dads very nice digital camera was accidentally left in the car as well, and lucky for us, it was covered by some stuff my parents brought home, and they didnt even see it.
lol? People have been breaking into cars for GPS's since they were practically invented. They make a quick buck--$100-200. Never leave anything electronic sitting in plain view. I've been guilty of throwing the camera or laptop bag behind the front seat, which is stupid, so put it in the trunk or glove compartment IF you can't take it with you.
dont all the GPS devices have soemthing like a IP number? seems like you could do a search on the IP number and or the serial number on the GPS and maybe find the guy who is behind the smash and grabs.
sorry to hear that mang...that blows. anything new, sellable and easy pocket and turn around will always be targets in the car. My wife learned the hard way when I told her to put all of that stuff out of site when you park when her car was raped of all its goodies. Now she like I either bring all the items inside the house at night or in the trunk if that isnt available. outta sight outta mind...or at least lessens the chance of a breakin. of course since your dogs are better guards then you gave them credit for perhaps you should install them in your car next time as well
One way to discourage car-prowlers is to drive a rusty old junker. Thieves will never give it a second glance!
actually the car i had broken into the most was a junker cause it was super easy for them and passersby assumed thats how the car was.
We do have a garage lev. It was called having a U Haul trailer hooked to the back of the Suburban because we had to move a lawnmower that wouldn't work and we had to move it to a repair place. That is why it was on the street instead of in the drive way. Besides, just because it was on the street doesn't mean it isnt safe. Our neighborhood is a safe quiet neighborhood that usually does not see this type of behavior.
Yea Cox, all of the police out here highly suggest that you put your GPS units out of site out here in LA, because of how many people break into cars out here.
I kind of doubt they were hunting GPS devices...most likely they were looking for anything of value. Hide it all...don't leave the suction cup in the window..don't leave the power cord hanging out...they will then look in your car. I had people break in my car just to get out of the rain...they took all my knobs ..shhesh..broke the vent window. After that..I leave it unlocked...nothing is inside to steal anyways.
There are certain people purposely hunting for GPS devices. This is a known fact. They're easy to smash and grab, easy to pocket, easy to sell, etc etc. Of course you have the other clowns who make it a weekly tradition to just go down a street and smash out car windows and steal nothing.
Thanks for the flame bait... /sigh On a side note, what does being in America have anything to do with it? What you don't think they have robbers and thief's in Canada? Everywhere in the world, there are robbers thief's, criminals. Do not just single out one country.
You left a GPS in your car? Visible? I would have at least left the window alone. I'm handy with coathangers and stuff...
As. make sure to wipe the ring off the windshild left by the suction cups. Thieves in NY are breaking into cars that they see the ring, figuring that the GPS is stowed in one of the inner compartments. They are usially right. Cheers.
