First let me start off by saying Fuck You Ubisoft. Now then, on to the thread. From The Escapist, home of Yahtzee Croshaw if you have never heard of him, check out his reviews. They are freaking hilarious. The reviews are so popular that when you Google "The Escapist", his page is the first result. So basically, serious sam let's you pirate the game, even lets you play it. The only bit of DRM is that the game will throw an unkillable mob at you during the game. Essentially turning the game into a limited playability demo. This is how you do DRM without giving the finger to every paying customer who purchases and plays your game. Mass Effect also did a fantastic job of this, simply freezing your game once it really started to pick up making gamers who pirated it everywhere scream noooooooooooooo. Also damn that level has some catchy music.
lol they should've put a pirate hat on it. I read about the Arkham City job too. They broke batmans cape in one of the rooms that fills up with gas so you just die heh.
I had not heard about that. I really like that. I hope more companies adopt this far more passive style of DRM in the long run.
In GTA4, if you downloaded a cracked version, your guy would be drunk 24/7, so everything kept spinning, like all the time. Made the game unplayable really. I purchased the game on Xbox but wanted to try it on PC, so I fell victim to it myself, lol. This video shows what it was like. It starts halfway through the video (but in the cracked version it was constant).
Crysis 2 also did it, the nanosuit would randomly fail and you would be unable to see or use abilities till you died
