    True Game Integration

We are working with developers to incorporate Dolby® Axon into their games to help make in-game voice live up to the rest of the game experience. Here’s what you get with games that integrate Dolby Axon:

    Voices in Surround Sound

Mission Against Terror from Kingsoft features Dolby Axon

In most games, voice chat is one-dimensional—no matter where you or other players are in the game, voices are always front and center. You can’t tell if someone is sneaking up behind you or hiding around the corner, because it all sounds the same.

Dolby Axon transforms in-game communication, putting you right in the middle of the game, immersing you in sound, and making the whole experience more realistic and exciting. It’s a true surround sound experience over 5.1 or 7.1 channels, or even over standard headphones.

    Powerful Voice Features

Dolby Axon helps you hear where your opponent is, so you can take action quickly.

In the real world, when people move around you, their voices move with them. Their voices become louder or softer as they approach or move away, and when they step around a corner or behind a wall, their voices become muffled and harder to hear. While these occur as part of our everyday hearing, they have not typically been a part of the in-game audio experience—that is, until Dolby Axon.

Dolby Axon accounts for players’ locations, movements, and their relationship to in-game objects by mapping voices to the unique geometry of each game. When you move in the game, Dolby Axon accurately depicts the location of other players’ voices around you. This gives you a huge tactical advantage over those players who hear everything from just one direction.

    Changing Voices—Changing Personae

Dolby Axon also lets you alter your voice to match your in-game persona. Make your voice deeper to sound like a menacing mercenary; raise it to sound like a devious elf; or even switch between male, female, and animal voices. Voice fonts make role-playing more dynamic and intimidating your opponents becomes that much easier.

    Pioneering Sound

Dolby Axon’s unique sound innovations eliminate the unwanted noise, echo, clipping, or delays common to online games.

Dolby Axon draws from our years of experience and expertise in sound processing and employs proprietary technologies in noise and echo reduction, dialogue leveling, and voice activity detection to deliver a clear voice experience that’s far superior to that of other online games. Whether you’re in the heat of battle or racing through the streets of New York, you get clear, crisp sound from every direction.

i always thought it would be a neat idea(although too man people in one area might be too many voices at once) to have a town area use this where you can talk to people using a mic in an mmo for example, you can hear people talk as you walk by or what ever.....

I'm confused. My audio in FPS games already does this for NPCs and for players its useless because in-game voice chats are never used unless you play on console. .

Very cool and I concur with Sokar about the FPS surround sound. You can definitely hear which direction bullets, footsteps, etc, are coming from and how far.

The Dolby Axom is a more sophisticated I agree, well except the elf voice. Sounded more like a Christmas Elf voice...lol.
