This is a short review. It was the first metal show I've been to that hasn't been done by Amateurs. The acts: The Art of Dying (filler while people actually showed up) followed by Skindred and All That Remains as the actual opening act for Disturbed. Skindred: Good live show, not a huge fan of their music though. The singer was hilarious though. I was not expecting to see a black midget doing metal last night for some reason. Great show, lots of jumping in the mosh. All That Remains: A little disappointing at first. Then after a couple songs it was absolutely awesome. I'm a fairly big ATR fan, so when Chirion, Two Weeks and This Calling was played, I sort of lost it Great show again. Now Disturbed. It was absolutely phenomenal. The arena (it was a hockey rink with the ice out. Real Canadian eh?) was packed, the stands were full and the rink was full of people moshing. All I can really say, is if you like metal music, and there is Disturbed playing anywhere near you, get your ass over there. Also, the drummer has the best drumkit I have EVER seen in my life. His solo was the best drumming I've ever heard (and the lights just made it look more spectacular) Definitely give that show a 5/5 . If you have the opportunity to see any of the bands live, doooo iiiiit.
When I saw disturbed a couple years ago at koolhaus in toronto it was a 6/5 for sure. They were better than the godsmack/metallica concert I went to. They had 10 year and some other band not worth mentioning open for them. As far as skindred goes...... the one song is aight but check out a quote from a member of manowar for my general feeling towards metal with rap. I would love to go see Disturbed again but I would like to see other bands before I go see them again. "Adding Rap to Rock is like taking the most beautiful girl you've ever seen to a plastic surgeon, and ask him to put a penis on her. I don't even call those bands metal, that's an insult to everybody who works with this music. It's a downright shame, that some people are confusing that shit with metal. The only reason I could figure out why people would call those bands metal is because there are teenage journalists who have never heard REAL metal before. I consider it an insult to us and our fans. It's degrading." -Karl Logan (Manowar)
i just went to shinedowns, and it was really good as well. Saliva, buckcherry, shinedown and another 2 i cant remember were there. Great time
I saw disturbed last year at the Rockstar Mayhem Fest with Dragon Force ans Slipknot and a ton of other bands. Disturbed was awesome and had a good pit but then Slipknot started there set at the end and all hell broke loose Slipknot is one of my favorite bands and live they are amazing. The day after that I had to pop a oxycodine to get out of bed ^.^
Two words: Iron Maiden. . . but if Disturbed ever make their way out here to Australia, I'll go see them!!
Saw Crossfade, Hinder, Black Stone Cherry, Breaking Benjamin, Three Days Grace, and Stained on my 17th B-day couple years back. That was a kick ass show.
One Word: Tool Course I'm biased. I've seen them 4 times. Marylin Manson puts on a kick ass concert too. I think half the fun of it was the protesters our front.
Before I start posting youtube links, they also had the best drum solo I've ever seen but I cant find it. The drumset they have is also fucking epic. That's one random song by each artist. [youtubeHD]pMaQQJcO3Dw[/youtubeHD] Land of Confusion. The camera doesn't do it justice at all. And inside the fire The last one doesn't work in HD, and once again doesn't do it justice but its there and you can see some of the mosh. and just because I found a decent version of it.... yeah. I'm a youtube whore it seems. and to edit yet again.... Really rare song... An acoustic version of Remember.
I saw Skindred with Papa Roach a long while back ~2003? They were a lot of fun. The Jamaican accent on the lead singer cracked me up most of the night. "C'mon bounce wit me." I have never seen Disturbed but I heard they have a good live show, except for one thing. My sister and brother in law saw them 2 times in 1 year and the band said the exact same thing between songs at the same show. So it could be good or bad. I guess I think it's kind of cheating to plan out everything you are going to say, but at the same time if it leads to a great show, why not? Sokar is correct. The best live band is Tool. I go to a lot of concerts. See the link in my sig for all I have tracked in 2007, 2008, and this year. I went to 6 shows in April and 6 May (thats off the top of my head so actual number might be different). As far as best Rock bands I have seen live, the top 5 list is: Tool, Slipknot, Hurt, Korn (not a big fan but the are so good live), Inept (Unsigned Chicago band that is amazing live).
Do it. It will be worth it. Especially this summer where there are so few dates. Man I wish they would come to Iowa.
Disturbed uses rhymes in some of his songs and they still kick ass (such as Pain Redefined). I'm a Manowar fan and have no idea what Karl is talking about. I can't recall any other bands that use rhymes.. so maybe he heard some pretty bad shit. But I kinda agree that in general, rhyming isn't something that should be included in metal. @Brown ... damn you're lucky! Just seeing the youtube version, I can picture how amazing it must've been.
I wouldn't exactly call pain redefined rap or that it even approaches that territory. Nor would I say rammstein does anything close to that. I only own Mutter and Sensucht though so I can't speak for their newest music. Skindred on the other hand........... which is who I was aiming that quote at. There are plenty of other rap metal bands out there I have heard over the years but none come to mind since I tend to skip them. Up until a few days ago I would have forgotten about skindred had I not heard it on the radio.
I wasnt saying Rammstein was rap Im just saying alot of their music rhymes. They also put alot of play on words in.
I would say the basis for most music is rhyme. What separates rap from metal and other genres is the manner in which it is delivered.
