Unlike the title suggests this is not for XoO server costs or to save Q or to buy $2500 worth of Idris spaceships for Star Citizen. This is for something else. A chance to make a real difference! Regardless of whether you donate $5 or $200 I would like everyone to take a minute to look at some popular donation sites and help those in need this Christmas. Those kids that are unfortunate enough to have been born into poor families, people who have lost their jobs, or have had a bad string of luck need your support. It is easy to forget about those unfortunate souls when not directly confronted by them or through an infomercial. I imagine most of you have stopped reading by now, but for those who have not please take just a little time and money to donate to a good cause. Some will be provided below: Feeding America - http://feedingamerica.org/ Make A Wish Foundation - http://wish.org/ Toys for Tots - http://www.toysfortots.org/ American Red Cross - http://www.redcross.org/charitable-donations Shriners Hospital for Children - https://secure2.convio.net/shfc/site/PageServer?pagename=give_donateonline United Way - https://give.liveunited.org/page/contribute/support-us St. Jude Children's Research Hospital - https://shop.stjude.org/GiftCatalog/donation.do?cID=14262&pID=24671 If you do not have any spare cash this Christmas then perhaps donate some items you no longer need: Salvation Army - http://satruck.org/donate-goods If you donate and are willing to post about it feel free to simply reply that you have donated. You need not post the amount or where you donated unless you really want to. Kyoji - Donated
Side Chip-In: Humble Bundles are still coming out and still fantastic. It is a great way to give to charity and receive games for a massive discount. Win-Win https://www.humblebundle.com/ I'll be donating clothes, books, and old sport equipment these season myself.
Hey Kyoji, saving Q's life is making a difference ! Nice choice of putting the Shriner's on the list tho we building one of their biggest hospital here in Montreal, 400M$ of private funds !
I donate via direct withdrawal from my pay and I also give annual holiday donations to Annex Cat Rescue and Homeward Bound Rescue in Canada - in addition to my bi-weekly contributions. I work in the charitable sector and Kyoji's suggestions are excellent organizations - but I would also like to encourage people to consider giving to less popular charities. Health related causes like ALS, Huntingtons etc. get very little in donations and are always grateful for donations. Additionally, issues like eating disorders, spousal abuse, homelessness, and mental health charities are often disregarded. Small animal rescue orgs are also a good choice and receive very little funding when compared to large Humane Socieites and SPCA types of orgs. In Canada you can view the tax returns of charities online via the Charities Directorate (a division of the CRA - the Canadian version of the IRS). Although there is often bad press related to charity scams, the reality is - 98% of charities are responsible and ethical with funds. Giving is good for the soul Happy Holidays!
Local food banks are also always a good place to donate as well, I know here some grocery store chains hold a buy one get one free special every so oten an I usually just donate all my second items I get for free to the food bank. Doesn't break my wallet and I know someone will get good use out of it.
