Here is the story if you want to see:

Okay, this probably won't mean anything to anyone who isn't Canadian, but I'm kind of totally stoked about this.

I'll give the Americans a bit of background. Canada is pretty diverse, and because it's so diverse the different provinces have pretty varied reputations. My own home; Alberta, is kind of regarded in a similar manner that Texas is in the USA. The city of Calgary is kind of the Canadian equivalent of Houston, and we kind of get a reputation of being redneck, backwards, hick, etc...

Our provincial voting record has been Conservative (think Republican) since 1971 and some form of political conservatives since 1935.

So, you can probably understand that the rest of the country was extremely perplexed when we elected a Harvard graduate Muslim university professor for mayor in yesterday's election. The best part is watching the people in Toronto scratch their heads in total confusion.

    LOL :D

Anyway, I just found this way too funny. I like breaking stereotypes. Here is a video of the new Mayor of Calgary, Naheed Nenshi speaking at a TED talk:

Doesn't make him any less conservative. I still blame the west for Harper.

I don't remember making a thread about politics...I thought I made a thread about stereotypes. Were you reinforcing my point? Thanks! :D
