Alright I made a modified config file for Borderlands 2 that should make things run a bit better for AMD/ATI graphics card users. Although I also increased the quality of certain things as well so performance may take a hit from those increases. All around it should look a little bit better and have better performance on average. Just as a warning, you need a few GB of RAM and a graphics card with at least 1GB of memory to use this config. My game resolution is also 1920x1080, so if you use something different you may need to change a couple lines before you start playing. Do not go into your settings menu once you copy this file over your current one as that could remove any changes I made. http://www.mediafire.com/?g9wxwwwpk6kzgob This file goes in: C:\users\*username*\Documents\My Games\Borderlands 2\WillowGame\Config\ For Nvidia users I made another config file that is basically the same as the one above, but I re-disabled the AMD optimizations and re-enabled the Nvidia ones. Quality will be better than the AMD file as well because this Nvidia version brings back more tessellation to the game. http://www.mediafire.com/?v74cw03btvaogik I have PhysX disabled for AMD users as well because Nvidia locks it out to the CPU only for everyone but them. I enable it on my computer because I have good hardware, but I left it disabled in this config because for those that dont have a good quad core you might run into performance issues. The Nvidia config still have PhysX enabled though.
Alright thanks for the response. At least it didnt make things worse for you. lol The changes that were made make the game try and keep the frames per second smoothed between 55-60 fps so the game doesnt seem jumpy due to large swings in fps rates. It also doubles the amount of memory the game can use to help with performance. It uses a couple LOD tweaks to give sharper image quality to certain things, especially particles. It also allows temporal multi-sample anti-aliasing, but I cannot confirm for sure that it will actually get enabled. The Unreal Engine 3 normally does not like to use AA at all. Oh and a couple shadow things were added. The config would probably help people who have lower end CPUs and/or GPUs mostly. And the AMD users would probably see more improvement than Nvidia since the tweaks are geared more for lessening the stress on them.
I'll give the nvidia config a swing too once my new card arrives as it will definately render my CPU the bottleneck of my system for performance. -KM
