It's not as bad as people make it out to be, most low scores are due to technical problems and I can say the game has been a bitch to get working. Took a patch and over a week of tweaking the config files and forced nvidia options to get a working game... not mentioning the 3 beta nvidia drivers. And even then I still get a 0.2-0.5 seconds texture popping. Which is annoying but I doubt it will get any better than that for the next few weeks. I am 2-3 hours in and so far it's fun, doesn't re-invent the wheel but still a lot of fun. Decent shooter with just enough RPG elements. Wish there was some kind of skills/levels for replay value but as a 12-15 hours campaign it's solid enough I assume. We'll see.
It is a fun game, and visuals on a whole are quite good. People like to complain about texture resolution, but that isnt what the game is about. The Engine is designed so the whole game can be crafted by hand and no two feet of ground is the same in game. If you tried to do that in any other game engine it would take a lot more space and give horrible performance, so the game runs and does its things incredibly well. I get no teture popping on my computer after a few quick config edits There are some options and stuff in the FPS area of the forums for some quick steps and config file changes to get you started. These will help to try and minimize texture popping and give you a bit better graphics. If you have an Nvidia card you can probably raise the anisotropy to 8 or 16 and not get texture "seams" in game. AMD's filtering algorithms produce seams in this engine at settings over 4 currently. The game has a patch out now and both Nvidia and AMD have drivers out specifically for RAGE to help performance. Although performance was never an issue for me and drivers didnt improve anything. I got a solid 60fps on normal Catalyst 11.8 As Norrak said, its a fairly good game and fun for a single player FPS game. Nothing revolutionary in gameplay but it is still plenty fun. I recommend playing it on hard Here is a little image of the game I took to show you how it looks in game. You can judge for yourself whether the game looks terrible or not. Just dont go walk up and stare at a wall instead of actually playing the game and you wont have to notice any/many low res textures:
I did not like their narrative and the way they delivered the missions. Shooting things was fun felt like an ID shooter. A lot of the textures sucked when you got close to them. But the scenery look very nice. I kept expecting more boss fights but I was wrong. It was good but not as good as I thought it would have been.
Thanks for the info.. a bit pricey for me..(been buying too many games lately)..why i been hesitant to buy it. I do think id like it..Ill just wait on this...thanks again.
I think a lot of the low scores where that people where expecting Fallout with better shooting. I know once I got to see what this game really was I moved it down to my "get on a steam sale for 5 or 10 bones" list.
