Anyone else into watches? I would never call myself a collector or anything much more than an admirer but I can appreciate a nice watch. Currently I have a Citizen Calibre 8700 with Eco-drive which is an awesome feature!! Anyway, I was browsing the GQ Britain website and came across a feature of theirs that had 84 top watches...or what they thought were. Just thought I would share since some are very nice but I know it's not everyones cup of tea. The prices on some of these are just ridonculous! de Grisogono Meccanico dG This one is pretty interesting. I could never see myself wearing one but very cool design. DeWitt WX-1 This is one of my favourites on the entire list. Very simple elegant design. Greubel Forsey Quadruple Tourbillon This one from Hugo Boss is an eye catcher and compared to the rest is attainably priced. Hugo Boss Rose Gold Chrono As the description on the page says kind of reminds you of something egyption. Jean Dunand Shabaka This is probably the simplest one out of the entire list and is the cheapest. The rotating dials is a pretty cool concept instead of hands. Lacoste Anniversary Very nice watch by Omega. The silver on black gives a very refined look. Omega Hour Vision Annual Calendar Oris is a swiss brand that makes some very nice pieces this is a newer piece and at the end I'll share my favourite one from them. Oris BC4 Flight Timer I dare you to find something unappealing about this watch. Parmigiani Kalpa Hemispheres My favourite watch design is the skeleton design where you can see the inner workings of the watch. This one does it nicely. Vacheron Constantin Quai de L'Ille Only really good if you live in paris or care what the sky looks like but this one is pretty interesting. Van Cleef & Arpels Midnight in Paris Again with this one you get to see the inner workings to some extent. One of my favourites. Villemont Les Heures du Monde Very industrial looking but nice nonetheless. Zenith Defy Xtreme Zero-G This is the first one on their list and it wasn't a disappointment. A Lange & Söhne Cabaret Tourbillon Now here are 3 of my favourite watches. Here is the Oris Artelier Skeleton. I plan on getting this one day. I don't remember where I came across this one but have loved it since the moment i saw it. Next up are a couple from Movado. Definately not for everyone since one doesn't even have hour markings but you can't deny the appeal of the watch. Esperanza and Faceto. That's all for now. Hope someone gets some sort of enjoyment out of this.
Those are some sweet watches! I know I need one but Ive never been able to find one I like at a decent price...
What's a decent price? lol Obviously most of those are not at 2000+ but the Hugo Boss, Lacoste and I think one other are what I would consider reasonable for a watch of this style. Even the Calibre 8700 is fairly well priced and can be found for less than the listing price on the site. Seiko makes some nice watches for the price aswell. So that is a good start. Hugo Boss makes reasonably priced watches for the most part and the one here is on the upper end of their line. I believe it is Boss Black. Can't go wrong with the Victorinox Swiss Army watches either. That was one of my first ones but unfortunately was stolen from my locker at the gym years and years ago.
I found a cheap rolex oyster on ebay a while ago it was a 14k perpetual was going for £1500, when I got home, it had been bought, I am still kicking myself to this date, should've bought it right there and then. I'm still looking for one.
I currently have an Citizen Echo Drive watch too. It's 5 years old though. I spent 500 bucks on it and it's still running like it's new.
I got this Seiko as a gift, http://www.seikowatches.com/products/premier/kinetic_c/snl044p1.html, I've been wearing it ever since. It uses kinetic energy to recharge the battery so u'll never have to change batteries, unless it's been lying around for a long time. Last time I checked it was priced at £700
Ya my friend has one like that... same brand but different model. The kinetic part is really cool. When you hit the button on the side the second hand moves to show you how much energy it has.
A few of their kinetic watches have built in battery displays so you don't have to hit any buttons. I really wanted a kinetic one but fell in love with the calibre 8700 when I saw it and the solar power is freaking wicked. Nice watch eel. I really want a leather band on my next watch too. That's why I am leaning towards the oris artelier skeleton. But it is hard to choose since steel and leather both look really good on that watch. The Hugo Boss watch might just do the leather band craving though.
Robert Langdon? I use my cell phone to tell the time. Much cheaper than shelling out 2k for something so abstract you can't even tell the time on them anymore.
i find i feel odd without a watch (though ive not really clung to the cell phone texting craze i see everywhere), but reports are that watches are a dying artifact worn typically only by those raised wearing one. of course, working in a secure facility means phones aren't there to tell the time anyway, so perhaps im just the odd one out. however, i don't really get any fancy watches... i have a simple sports watch, though i did have a nicer watch i wore with a suit to dinners in college.
I have a beautiful Tag Heuer which I love. Casual enough to wear at the beach and classy enough for that black tie function too. Worked like a charm for over 15 years.
