take off that gadget shit..... i never liked it and never had it on. i'm 32 bit. but, the question is, what cpu you got? b/c you can have all the ram in the world but if you don't have the right cpu, it won't be as good. give us system specs. and what does your pc do more often play games or other work?

    gpu?

I have 8 gigs of ram as well, and gadgets don't really do anything to slow down performance. You could try turning off disk defrag scheduler, since it's just annoying. But I haven't really needed to tweak anything out. If you're getting stutter, it's probably more your CPU or video card.

I usually turn off most visual effects, but only because they are annoying. Window shadows, animating/sliding menus etc. Turn off any services you don't need. You can easily disable like 10-20 without affecting anything you use. Turn off most of the gadgets and sidebar...unless you like to see the temperature and weather. It's really just the same as xp...mostly. I never got around to using the windows search but some people seem to like it. If you do then fine, otherwise turn off all that kind of stuff....indexing etc. You will most likely never use it.

Turn off the Aero feature as well if you don't really need it. Sidebar slows down the boot-up process, but with 8 gigs of RAM it shouldn't affect performance.
