Was thinking about GW a few days ago when i was playing WaR with a friend, remebered how KICKASS it was so thought id chase up my old guildies and see what going down ! Ive had GW since its been release, but only got the 1st expansion (the assasin one) and kinda stopped middleway through that. Used to be part of XoO but then moved to XoE, the xen of europe GW division. A couple of us got fed up with the person who was meant to be leading XoE and left to make How about a cup of [Tea]. To be honest we did much better then XoE ever did, and beat the XoO first team a few times ! I split away because i kinda burned out on the game and needed a break. Lost contact with everyone though (Happy, SteppenWolf), they probs arn't still around though.. So thats my story.. whats happend? Had to make a new forum account and im wondering how is XoO GW going? Is it still strong? Thanks, Makuto.
Don Zardeone quit XoO a while ago after an upset that it was decided he couldn't start XoE up again because the command structure in the divisions had changed to only XoH and XoP (to my knowledge), but that was just part of the reason he left. A long time ago Billiard quit, which weakened the guild's status but not really it's core, after a big chunk of XoH defected the core weakened enough to slow it down to only a few choice regulars, aka Radicus Flame, Grizward, Diarkana, Bo, Sirius, Skydance, Coral, ect. It's a great guild still, it's just not that active... which is a lot of the fault of the game itself slowing down member-wise but will pick up hard in GW2 (assuming GW2 is everything as promised).
GW2? Hah! Didnt even know that was coming ! Well Id love to be part of XoO again when GW2 comes out Maybe bring back the oldies. Thanks for the info guys.
I (Zhao Guangyi) am still active (recently) in the XoO community, left GW shortly before GWEN hit. Find myself wasting time and money in WoW, apped to the DarkFall beta and awaiting GW2 in hopes it stays free and maybe just maybe fun..
The main difference in the economic standpoint is that WoW is micro sub and GW is SAG, but if you weigh the prices of either GW turns out about 11CAD/month where as WoW is 15. The difference between SAG and micro sub is that in SAG you can pay 10CAD/6mo and play forever where as WoW you can pay 15/1mo, quit, then pick up any time you want for an additional extra fee, so for fast quitters/rejoiners WoW is a great choice because when you come back you get the majority of the content you missed where as you need to buy that in GW, but in GW you can play through a single storyline in a year through occasional play and it still costs the same as if you're hardcore digging.
Diarkana has been busy lately, and Boe isn't in the guild anymore. Sirius currently doesn't have a GW-capable machine. So, it's been even quieter.
I'm around but don't play. In october i picked up the new expansion with the intention of getting back into it on a weekly basis but it never happened. I got busy with school and swimming and running and biking and hurting myself and and and....... I think the game has lost its luster. I don't see GW2 holding peoples interest for as long as the firsst couple of expansions did. When I started playing again it seemed relaly hard to get anything done if you werent caught up. A lot of districts are empty and people want specific builds.....like they always did. Except that now having fallen behind 2 expansions it's very hard to catch up. I will say it can be mildly amusing in small doses......like halloween or christmas were. They always put on good events for holidays.
GW2 isn't an expansion to GW1. It's a new game, and hopefully they've learned from the problems of GW1. If not, they'll have to work on some new IP pretty soon. You'd be surprised how many people fallaciously assume that the game mechanics are remaining the same though.
That's why they introduced heroes, so the game isn't so dependent on human interaction. GW is released in Stand Alone Game content releases, which means they can charge $60-$70 for 6 months of content development, which if you buy all SAG's turns out to $11.5/month. This worked out well until recently where getting the game from scratch started to get less and less appealing for people who want pvp standard chars seeing as it costs them hundreds to play pvp in a casual game.
Except the chapters cost $50 US at most, and they actually release new editions once a year on average. So, less than $5 a month. You can also buy a PvP edition with all chapters' skills for $50 last I checked.
That's now, this was then. The chapters were $60 and with tax $70, the majority of that time the USD and CAD were $0.006-$0.009 away from memory, remember that you buy content when it is NEW so original players who get the FULL extent of the game pay the full dollar, where adversely if you wanted to input your budget sales you'd have to raise the average price to fit the shorter time span then lower the average price to fit the sales plan. Hell, they started out with no online shop, 1 game + CE. Trust me, I was apposed to them releasing factions/NF and was doing my homework in real-time.
I enjoyed factions a lot more than NF. It lost its appeal within the first few weeks. Factions kept me interested the entire time. The content just seemed to be boring i NF. Mind you I never completed the game and i dont even know if i made it half way through.
They were $50 US at the time. They're cheaper now. If you're talking about CAD, well yeah, any of us that don't live in the US get ripped off as a matter of course.
