    Just bought these:
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16826570013&Tpk=cm storm Sirus

Its one of those multi driver headphones that tries to produce surround sound with clever crossovers and angled drivers.

    Its pretty good.
I unboxed, plugged them in, installed drivers, configured and popped in die hard 4to test the suuround sound. I was immediately dissappointed. The sound was anemic and just plain tinny/boomy/hollow. the surround sound sucked and i couldn't believe I had just taken off my devine AKG q701's to use these.

I started battlefield three and immediately was blown away. These headphone came to life!!! The surroundsound was deep/full and spatial recognition was very, very good.
I could locate footsteps, feel explosions- and pinpoint their location. I could use sound to track the location of enemy fire. It got so good that I started getting accused of hacking because I always knew when I was being followed. I was unknifable. How could these be so good at gaming- both the sound and the surround sound effect quality, but be sooo bad at everything else? namely in the areas of sound and surround effect???

I threw everyhting I had at these headphones to compare. I used multiple dedicated headphone amps I've collected. I used multiple sound cards both internal and outboard. It took me all night. Truth is, using the Sirus rig I heard and felt things that my Q701's, my HD595's, my AT-M50's, mo old sony's and grados, Ei2's, or UE 4 Pro customs weren't producing. They're that good for gaming. The surround sound is ridiculously good for being headphones.

Here's the problem, they just aren't actual surround sound monitors. I use a matched 5.1 surround set of KRK rp6g2's and a k10s sub for my music surround sound production work/play. I also run a pair of JBL LSR4328's for my main stereo mixing work. So, I can get true 7.1 when I want to out of my Saffire Pro 40 for in-game sonic nirvana. Yes, I'm bragging here. Be jealous! These Sirus headphones don't hold a candle to the real thing. Of course, they also cost thousands less, so that may not be entirely fair.

After a while, I made the following judgement. I realised that- Yes, I could hear more and do more with these headphones than without. They are a tool to be used to be a more effective fps gamer. I'll be keeping them so I can kill all of you more efficiently without keeping up the girlfriend at night.

BUT, and its a big hairy but, the sound quality is shit for anything that is not a surround game. Music and movies are just awful through these cans. Its like the software is lost and has no idea where to put the sound. FPS Games= great- I've never used better. everything else = I'll be switching back to my q701's.

Oh, did I mention these headphones are neck-crushingly heavy?
On second thought, my neck still hurts and I still have the receipt... Anyone have any better ideas? I'm looking for the perfect surround sound headset.
