7.1 though Fiber?

    Does any one know if 7.1 can be ran though fiber cable? I know that the PS3 cannot output it but does that mean the PS3 can or Fiber its slef.???

    As far as I know only HDMI supports lossless 7.1 channel. But theoretically fibre should be able to handle it - someone just has to build the equipment and standard. I'd stick with HDMI if you can though it's proven (and works amazing on my setup).

    Yea my dad bought a Pioneer VSX817VK a year and a half ago and it was the last one that did not have HDMI, I had my ps3 hooked up with Fiber and it would only do 5.1. This sucks because the receiver is still a great receiver but no HDMI.

    It turns out that Fiber does not have the bandwidth for true uncompressed 7.1

    Going to just tell my dad to stick with it till he needs or feels the need to upgrade receivers.
