http://geonet.org.nz/quakes/region/wellington/felt then a few more little shakes ..thats after the 5.7 that shook me around on friday at work
http://geonet.org.nz/quakes/quakesmap i really hope the big one does not hit at this spot. Not only will we have the QUAKE...but we will have a wall of water to worry about too. There was an 8.2 near this area in 1855. Water sloshed back and forth in wellington harbor like water in a bowl.
I live in Oklahoma smack dab in the middle of the US were there has never been an earthquake in recorded history until last year. Last year's quake I have no idea what it rated (cant remember) but I was in bed when it hit and it felt like my bed was in the back of a moving truck driving down the road. Really fucking weird for someone who has never experienced that before. Messed up the foundation on my house and now I have a crack forming in the brickwork on the outside and eventually it will have ot be jacked back up which is pretty damn expensive. Reason I am saying all this is that I am wondering how your houses are built? do they build them all on top of springs or something where your from? That many hit Oklahoma and my house would be dead.
I know what you mean..the 5.7 was my first real shake. Im from the usa living in New Zealand. Then the 6.8 scared me seriously. They have closed the central business district here in the capital till they check all the buildings
Got a few earthquakes so far in Indonesia, Singapore, Bucharest, even one in Paris lol. They aren't bad as long as u're not in a city with houses made of crap tied together with shit. As long as u're below 7.0 u're fine.
depends on how shallow...the 6.3 in here in christchurch NZ in 2010 at a depth of 5k in 2011 killed 185...did 40 billion in damage. it lasted 10 secs. that was an aftershock...from the 2010 7.2 a few months earlier. the 7.1 was deeper i forget how deep. We are just lucky this 6.5 was 19k deep
Yeah, I don't envy that. I only get hurricanes in Florida. I like hurricanes. They are slow, predictable, easy to dodge or bunker down against. Never been in an earthquake and I hope I never am.
florida is where i moved from...sat through 13 hurricanes. from Betsy and Camille..to opel and erin. they are not much fun either. But you can get out of the way..if you leave soon enough.
Good thing about Buenos Aires, no quakes, no hurricanes, no tornados, only the occasional flood, I imagine I'd be scared as fuck if I was in an earthquake all of a sudden.
Florida to NZ? That's an upgrade. Which reminds me.....Florida : "The Worst State" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hVTPily3ZyU
video removed, but I watch the daily show if that is what it was from. And we may be bad, but we are better than Texas. Not quite the "worst" yet.
I liked florida..I liked having a concealed weapon license. To each his own..just keep away from my own.
