Rules You can use any Canadian web site but parts must be available through NCIX.ca for price matching unless you can get a lower price through any other single site order like newegg.ca. Unless they also have price matching but far as I know NCIX has the best price matching policies and ease of use for the Canadian market. I don't do mail in rebates so add that crap back on your price. Also I may order a few parts today and wait until the new tech sales wed. evening/Thurs. morning for the rest of it lot of stuff from last week is now on back order and I don't do waiting for shit well Also I'll probably go pick up a case myself at some store or other so don't worry about that shipping is a bitch for those sometimes. But if you see a nice case with free shipping some where feel free but then it's got to fit in that 1k budget. (full tower I'm tired of fighting with midtowers) I also have 16g of 1600 gskill ram for the build but if you feel like putting something better in the budget feel free and I'll just leave them in my old box. Also I'm not a big overclocker so Don't go putting in expensive overclocking parts that I'm expected to constantly fart around with to get a couple percentage of fps out of them I won't get any use out of that kind of thing. Just nice solid parts if it comes with a button or program with a button that says safe overclock I'm not above using those though. The prize for all your hard work, that I'm probably going to mostly end up ignoring any way is I'll buy a new head set so everybody can listen to me not talk again And if your near southern Mississauga I usually got a half a bag or so of Dad's chocolate chip and oatmeal cookies laying around. (eat at your own risk)
So far I have http://www.ncix.com/detail/intel-core-i5-4690k-unlocked-c2-97889-1817.htm and either http://www.ncix.com/detail/msi-z97-gaming-5-atx-4d-97043-1257.htm or http://www.ncix.com/detail/msi-z97a-gaming-6-atx-56-107794-1581.htm i don't know what the difference is between them. : / or somebody can recommend a cheaper mobo to get some other better part in another slot. Maybes are http://www.ncix.com/detail/corsair-cooling-hydro-series-h80i-d8-104790-1223.htm http://www.ncix.com/detail/sandisk-ultra-plus-256gb-2-5in-64-80348-1146.htm or http://www.ncix.com/detail/samsung-850-evo-series-mz-75e250b-am-17-104175-1223.htm http://www.ncix.com/detail/seagate-barracuda-1tb-7200rpm-64mb-ba-65701-1223.htm Would like to sqeeze a 970 in but I don't know doubt it. Did AMD ever get around to putting sound through the video card like Nvidia? I kinda need that.
Right off the bat I am noticing that the Gaming 6 has SATA-Express but less USB ports. Id go with the gaming 5 since I find USB to be far more valuable to have and 4 ports (like the gaming 6) is not nearly enough for me. Gaming 5 has 8 ports, 4 USB2 and 4 USB3. The Gaming5 has M.2 drive support anyway and that seems more useful than Sata-Express does right now. To save money you could get that Sandisk SSD. That is a really nice price for a 256GB drive. That $105 price ends today though, so you might want to buy it now. It inst that good of a deal at the normal price of $150. You could try and find one of these towers in stores: http://www.ncix.com/detail/antec-one-mid-tower-gaming-atx-bf-67322.htm Cheap and good.
Single card is still always better. Some games dont get SLI still (for example, I am told the new expansion of FF MMO doesnt even have SLI yet), it takes a revision or two to get good SLI performance for new games, it does feel a little bit laggier than single card even when working perfect, you are limited in vsync options with SLI use. I still use SLI myself since I need the fps, but Id still rather go back to single card. Trying to fit all this stuff in, it looks like you are going to have to cut things back somewhere. Either get a cheaper processor, or lose the mass storage drive, use stock cooling for a while, or something like that. Just sticking the basic components in without RAM or GPU yet I am already at the $1k limit. Canadian prices suck.
Ya might be best to wait and see what the sales are like tomorrow night deals were better last week. NCIX isn't as good for price matching as it was either they seem to be blocking the price matching on most of their sale items now : /
I have 1k right now and was hoping for a whole comp but I may just have to do what I was originally going to do and buy my card then cpu mobo later. I'm also wondering how they are going to handle windows 10 on multiple comes in the same house. if they let me do 2 that will save $100 right there.
What do you think of this http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16883227611 I can maybe swing it.
nvm i went ahead and bought a 970 ill buy the rest later maybe pick up a few bit and bobs for cash here and there. thanks for your time though Enigma
Doesnt seem like a great deal to me, pretty much the same price to buy those parts yourself minus the tower. Which if you REALLY want the tower, you can just pay shipping and Ill send you mine of the same thing. I have it sitting in my garage because I upgraded towers twice now since I got that one. Honestly though the tower sucks, easily the worst tower I have used in the last decade. Feels flimsy as hell, parts dont line up quite right (a mm off here and there) drive bays are terrible, radiator mounting sucks, gets dirty really easily, nearly all plastic but the most basic frame. Feels more like the $50 towers to me, but it sells for $110+
What do you think of this mobo http://www.ncix.com/detail/gigabyte-z97x-ud3h-atx-lga1150-z97-e9-96898-1145.htm
here is what I ordered along with the ram and 970 I already bought. So how high do you think I can safely push the 4690k with that mobo and cooler I know the cooler isn't much better then a mid range aftermarket air cooler. But it's what I got for the next 6 months.
Just keep it at a nice safe 4.3GHz, people can pretty much always do 4.1GHz or so on stock cooling so pushing to 4.3 should be no problem whatsoever. When you get a better cooling then bring it up to 4.5-4.7GHz area. Or you can just keep it with that H60 in the low 4GHz range, spending another $120 CAD on something that will only get you another 300 MHz may not really be worth it with money already spent on a midrange unit.
Seems to be stable at that. Sits around 30-40 while playing SWTOR, with spikes to 60 and that game has a shitty engine. WOW on max wasn't stressing it enough to move past idle temps.
You can try pushing it to 4.4GHz then, Intel processors tend to lose stability when they near 80 degrees Celsius. Download a program called Prime95 first and run a smallFFT test and a large FFT test for an hour or two. While that will not check for complete and total stability, it will let you see possible max temperatures so you will know where you are at if you were to play a much more demanding game. And you play SWTOR too again? What server are you on?
I'm on harbinger I think its called and my old stuff from xoo days are still around on what ever server that ended up on.
ah ok. Im on Bastion with a couple people. I wanted to play on the PvP servers still cause fighting people while questing is fun, but sadly the PvE servers are probably better these days. Very little open world PvP anyway and the servers have lighter population so less Warzone PvP and people to raid with :/
