Maybe, maybe not. All those articles dont realize one thing, those are OEM models. Even Nvidia often rebrands entire lineups with new names for OEM models.
Ok that would be why then. But OEM products are mostly used for laptops yes ? And the current generation AMD thingies got serious heat / voltage issues. Well, anyway, June is soon, we'll see
It's common to take a "good" old chip and rebrand it as a lower-end part when the high end gets replaced with new stuff. nVidia basically completely renamed old stuff the mobile 800 series and 8800/9800 cards without changing marketing positions! (though that did involve a process change at some point). The GTX760 and 770 cards are basically GTX680s. AMD/ATI have certainly done it before. The low-end stuff from both companies is rampant with rebrands. (Hell, Intel's die-shrinks are "rebrands" in a way, same chip, basically, just made differently) Of course, they're not going to have two identically named "R9 380"s but have the OEM and retail versions not have the same chip. They'd have to make some kind of distinction. Adding an an X or Q or XT or whatever letters they like these days.
