Interesting. Warlords of Draenor has been delayed till after Blizzcon so I might pick this one up as a filler. The class system is enough to get me interested in the game or at least try it out and I LOVE (LOVE LOVE) the armour style of classic medieval look.

Edit: If XoO doesn't go Haranya I am going to cut someone.

Yeah, yeah. We get it. CryEngine's visuals are great, that's been uncontested since Crysis 1. But, is there anything more to this game's combat system then standard Korean MMO first-four-skill-button-mashing?

BobFromMarketing had a really good post awhile back about all of the information (as does the first post). First and foremost, is that it isn't a 4 skill button masher as you customized your own builds to deal damage/heal/or whatnot. Of course you could make a four button DPS rotation but that is completely up to you.

    http://arche-base.com/builds/generator#5.3.4/

To check out some builds. For example I could make a stealth healer with a shield via Devotion/Calling/and Protection (Secret Knight) or a caster who primary uses bows/spells/with a side of spell defense (Expert). It also features open world and completely free for all PVP once your off the starting continent. It rewards multiple path in playing and has the most sandpark mechanics in MMOs other than EvE Online (that are current).

The game was very popular pre-1.1 and had some bad direction in 1.1 which is looking to get back on track for v1.2 in Korea. Gliding is a great mechanic (think of Aion but with limited but anywhere flight) and pirates+trade runs on the open sea are a blast to experience.

I imagine Erock would unless you are currently engaged in another game or were looking to play Wildstar. To be honest anyone not looking to main Wildstar should give this game a shot because it is 1. Free to play and 2. Pretty damn good. Also a note about the founder's packs is that they are considered not really a great deal with it becoming increasingly worst as you move up through the ranks (backwards I know). Unless you are really dieing for access to NA I wouldn't pick them up right away since you could just go play on the RUS server with the English translation pack.

No classes which is pretty cool. Or well, there are classes, but 120 different combinations of classes. So you can be a tank, mage, rogue if you wanted. Finding cool synergies will be worthwhile.

It is tab targeting which is unfortunate, but skill doesn't solely rely on your twitch capabilities.

Also the amount of Korean hate is sad given that Western MMORPGs fair no better than Eastern ones.

Well, that is actually quite interesting. With 23 skill points (though I'd prefer 25) and 3 skill trees of choice I can see some pretty fun combinations already.

Speaking of pirates, is there any way to reduce your notoriety? Or does it build up to the maximum and there's no return? Because if it is so, then there might be issues where members of a division are separated from each other because one's a pirate and the other's not, making forming parties and such impossible.

Tab targeting won't be a problem anymore then in is in GW2, as long as you can move freely and it's just your targeted abilities that fly towards the lockon as opposed to the entire camera.

The reason I don't quite like Korean MMOs is because of their questing systems and boring combat mechanics. For instance -- Lineage 2, where a Treasure Hunter has 5 dagger strike abilities with slight variations -- damage, more damage, higher critical, bleed and poison. Cycling those 5 abilities is your only real way to attack, because your normal attacks don't deal any damage and there are no other offensive abilities. That's boring, mundane, especially since that's what you're stuck with while trying to gather 500 rat tails and 2500 varnish for some prick sitting in Aden.

On the other end of the spectrum -- Guild Wars 2 has few, but unique, skills. Each skill has a defined purpose and has it's use within the fighting mechanics. The only problem is that there are 5 of them per weapon and that's a pretty limited amount for someone's creativity. An issue upon which ArcheAge so far seems to improve.

Dude, that's way too much for broken alpha access. Especially since it'll be F2P anyway. :D

Sure it will be f2p but it comes with 90 days of premium 75$ worth of in game stuff limited edition armor and flying mabob ... and if you think alpha and beta is worth it so you can get game mechs down before full launch than to some its worth it ... others its not

I live in NY... if I go out with friends to NYC I know it will be $100+ for the night just in drinks and maybe a snack ... so if i can get 8 hours out of this ( which I will) than its a win win for me and no hang over :)

Not sure if you have ever played EvE Online but it is a similar system to security status. It takes awhile to build up to a negative stating (-3000 karma) but also takes a awhile to get off as well (lots o' grinding - just like EvE). It is possible that the system is changing or has been changed since I last looked over the mechanics. Typically speaking there is 3 options for a guild like Xen if we wanted to get serious.

    1. You play for a single faction and don't engage engage in pirating at all (respect your own faction).
    2. Join the pirate faction with your whole guild (fuck everyone else).
    3. You have a guild for a main faction - and a sister guild for pirating (more balanced but harder to manage).

Pirate faction is awesome but it also cuts out a bunch of content in the southern continent. It is also harder to recruit for since new players have to work there way towards the status. On the flipside, it always players of either faction to play together so it opens up two other race options.

The glider is received from questing as per normal. Players get a similar one at level 20. It isn't one of the best 3 gliders in the game which are used at the end. It is likely that the armour will be available from the cash shop as well. The title will get outdated by the others in the game but the cape is a pretty cool bonus for awhile since it can be customized. Either way, I am glad that people are interested in the game. I may fork down $50 for beta access and the 4 day headstart but I might not as well depending on the launch date. It is also a great chance for players who don't want to deal with the Russian server to get their hands dirty.

All in all I am extremely excited and hope that Xen has a division. I haven't been interested in a division since GW2 (which lined up with my gfx card burning out sadly) and it will be awesome to be playing with everyone again.

I only posted quoting you PR, when you wanted to see a division for Xen in the game. I think a division would be great! However, like I said we don't have the active memberbase or the leadership to make it happen. If you think you can just go into a game with 10 people (most of who have already pledged to be active in other divisions), without leadership, you're not going to be successful. At minimum not to the degree that the XoO tag should be successful. Other guilds do what we do in the SC division, in fact you would be hard pressed to find world/server first guilds in any game that don't do more. If you don't know that guilds spend 100s of hours pre-launch of a game, i'm afraid you don't understand what's required to run a guild. Gaming communities start recruiting years before a game comes out, you could go check out the SC forums to see that.

What really rustles my jimmies is the amount of people who want a division in every game, but don't want to put the actual work in to make it happen. Especially when they are not active enough to even play the game on a regular basis, let alone a competitive one. You yourself stated this is just a filler game for you. So we should put XoO time and resources into a filler division for you? No.

If you want a XoO division in Archeage, step up, lead. Going into the new games meeting tomorrow and just expecting a division is silly. Tomorrow when the question is asked who wants to lead the division, chances are it'll be crickets. The same as when I asked the same question for ESO.
