sometimes we vote on a faction. people will try to influence the outcome when they have no intention of playing anything other than what they want to play.

if you take part in a vote..should you have to abide by the vote?

Only when its a division leader vote anything before that means nothing. We end up losing so many people after those faction votes that I'm of the opinion that Xen should just not officially support faction based games anymore. If there is enough interest in a faction game for people to want to play together make a guild on all sides if there is enough people on them and people can join it or not, no more of this splitting the guild shit because of cosmetic bullshit.

The only thing a faction would matter in is something like SWTOR where there is a deep lore. Everything else people should go with the flow. In a guild you do not always get your way. Sometimes you do things for the collective.

ill try to clarify. In the past there were games that had factions that would compete in an mmo for whatever reasons...pvp,land,castles..whatever.

In xoo we had or still have a rule that you could not be on the same server and play against xoo.
You could not work against the good of xoo.
Like in planetside..you cannot join another faction and kill xen members.

when a new game comes along everyone has a fav faction they want to play..but in SOME games..not all...xen can only play one faction. So the games leader has a vote for what faction that xen division will play.
The faction with the most votes is what xen plays. (sometimes we do change factions later on )

If you cast a vote, then you are trying to sway what faction the guild plays, expecting others to then play that faction. That is what the vote is all about..what faction WE ALL PLAY.

Some people vote..and have no intention of abiding by the vote. If the faction they want to play loses the vote. They do play the faction that wins the vote.

I think that is wrong. if you have no intention of playing any other faction than the one you want. DO NOT VOTE>>JUST SAY I AM WALKING IF XEN DOES NOT PLAY (insert faction here).

Do not try to use a vote to make others play your faction.

If I am understanding this correctly if I vote to play the dunmer in ESO then I have to play the Dunmer in ESO regardless of what XOO does?

    OR

If I vote to play the Dunmer in ESO and that faction loses out on the vote and the majority goes with the stupid Khajits then I must play the Khajits along with everyone else regardless of voting to play the dunmer?

In this example I could only see myself playing the dunmer and nothing else. I would just not play the game if xoo decided to go khajit :) I just couldnt make myself suffer through hairballs and litter boxes.

PS - Im joking, who cares about faction unless there is some bad ass racial that is game breaking OP'ed but in that instance it would be fixed eventually and the race then a moot point. It's all just pixels and colors really, who cares. in fact I would run around as a big wobbly veiny triumphant rubber dildo if thats what everyone voted for.

While I understand the point you are trying to get across ultimately it isn't something anyone in Xen wants to/or should police. The community isn't here to babysit players nor is faction choice important in 99% of games. For example: Wildstar is the next big game with WoW-like faction which are fairly split (compared to ESO which everything meshes together).

The different between the factions in character appearance and zones. Now. Is your visual style really more important than getting to play with the rest of the Xen community? No, it isn't. If XoO rolled TR or NC instead of VS in Planetside 2 would it matter in the long run? Not really.

Popular opinion, alliances, and server populations are all important factors in picking faction and ultimately the decision is up to the CO.

Some of us cant get into the EQ-N Beta!! Or the TESO Beta!! lol.

Do you think I opted for Vanu? You have got to be kidding me. Myself, along with the the other 15 or so 1st generation XoO (We called ourselves Xen back then) voted and Vanu won. I played Vanu because I wanted to play with like minded people and that's what won the vote. Later in the evolution of PS1 i ended up playing a NC character on another server due to the XoO rules of not having opposing factions on the same server (Thou shall not kill fellow XoO members) but I always came back to XoO and the Vanu because that's what was most comfortable.

Had the vote went 2 points the other way, we could all be NC today. We lost a couple, we gained a couple but in the end XoO is about community, not pretty pixels on a screen, and it's that community that keeps us growing today.
