http://register.guildwars2.com/trial With over 3 million units sold in the first nine months of availability, Guild Wars 2 is the fastest selling MMO ever in the western market. 3 million units sold in the game’s first nine months of availability puts it at the top of the record books in Europe and North America. and soon to open in China. I am still loving the game..this and Rift.
If they revamped the combat engine so it didn't feel like taking a shit under the ocean while being maul by sharks...then I would play again.
As much I understand the sarcasm in the statement, it isn't about skill or even understanding. For example: I could be extremely good at throwing my own shit through people's windows into their house but that doesn't make the activity any more appealing than being bad at it. To be honest, I have achieved being in the top % bracket for almost every game I dedicated time towards (WoW, Dota 2, SC2, EvE, RO, Planetside, etc), I rarely find a game nowadays that has a learning curve beyond one week if that. GW2 has a fundamental issue of being a limited skill selection game (think MOBA) with roughly 8-15 decisions per moment. Many of these decisions are made for you (optimal skill choice for event) on top of that many skills are only activated once per minute. Imagine playing League of Legends but every ability was an 'ult' on a 60+ cooldown. That is what GW2 feels like. The utility skills are bland and reek of mediocrity because they were trying to appeal to a mass market instead of the GW1 player base. On top of that; while the game's engine is extremely beautiful (I love the art) the combat responsiveness is one of the worst in recent MMOs. WoW is almost 10 years old; Tera showed that the responsiveness of an action MMO can be extremely high. GW2 has no excuse for its poor coding, latency issues, GCD/Animations delay other than that they were built on after the graphics. Guild Wars 2 is disappointing because it is the girl that dyed her hair to appeal to more people, acts stupid to attract guys, and then tries to give too many people attention because it makes her feel more loved(money) in the long run. The person that I loved has been long dead. Buried beneath a fake exterior to appeal to the mass market. I love GW2's music, themes, and story. But the reason why I bought it (I wanted more guild wars but in an open world) is long dead. There is nothing left but an artistic weekly updating wow husk. And you know who does WoW best? WoW does.
