Not done exactly, I heard they still have the last few places in the game to do. But released finally
Pretty fucking awesome. I never wrote the mod off, but many did. This mod was first announced in 2003 I think? Maybe '04?
I hate countdowns to announcements, so I'm hoping that it actually releases tomorrow. Also, it's community greenlit on Steam already, so I wonder if we'll be able to get an easy install through Steam or if that will come later.
Yeah, I was happy to see that it was a countdown to an actual release. I started playing it yesterday and I love it. It's mostly a graphical update, but there are some jokes from the NPCs as well as a few gameplay change-ups that clear up some of the less intuitive things that were in the first game (like knowing where to go in the first level after the experiment & using flares on zombies for a bit to introduce physics gameplay before giving you the crowbar). On the downside, they kept the crouch-jump awkwardness. That's something I would have designed out in a reboot, but. . . well, maybe not, it does bring bag nostalgia as an awkward mechanic and you don't have to use it all that often.
THis isnt a reboot though, it is made completely by fans who worked on it in their spare time. It is meant to be as close to the original Half Life as they could get it, but on the Source engine. And they did a really great job on it. I hope Valve gives these people jobs.
Sorry if reboot is the wrong word. They clearly have made improvements to the original where they thought it needed improvements and have kept it the same in other spots. It's a highly modified rendition (I gave examples already - sorry that wasn't enough for you to get my meaning of "reboot" from the context).
no doubt, Enigma. This is no reboot- this is an homage to the greatness of Half life and middle finger to the laziness that was half-life source. These guys deserve medals.... and jobs.
