Time to Invest in a Mouse

I love my Rat7 Cyborg (not MMO). The MMO one looks even better. If you have big hands it is the mouse for you.

 

Get the G600, Logitch all the way. I bought the G9x not too long ago, doesn't have 16-18 keys on it, but 9 was enough for what I wanted to do with it. FYI, that's the 2 standard clicks, 2 buttons on side, mouse wheel click, left and right mouse wheel tilt, and 2 button for on-the-fly sensitivity changes. All buttons can be re-programmed, comes with built-in memory and custom LED colors. You may want more buttons just for MMO game-play but I see the G9x as a sort of all-around mouse.

Either way, both are great mice from a great, trusted company. (I don't trust Razer)

 

Cyborg MMO7 user here.

I love the thing in general. I was innitally looking at the Razer mouse but thought the buttons all together bunched up like that might cause my stupidfingers to fuck up too often and mash the wrong key. I ended up going with the Cyborg because of button placement and in the end, I haven't been disappointed with it though I still to this day have never tried to use the Naga style (and let's be honest, Logitech G600 as well since it is almost the same mouse in idea). I can say that before I got the Cyborg I was using a Logitech G9x and was happy with it too, I just wanted more buttons. If you do go Logitech you won't be disappointed with quality. I too distrust Razer slightly, I had a headset that broke within a week by them. Of course you'll hear the same thing about any company from someone, luck can play a role in quality.

On the Cyborg MMO7:
Pros:
-The size is adjustable for any size hand. It has adjustment options for weight, length and placement of the palm and thumb grips, even interchangeable pieces for both that palm section and pinky area so you can find which feels best.
-Like Logitech, no complaints on quality.
-Button placement is nice and you won't hit one button when you meant to hit another.
-The software is as good as you would expect, macro options with press/release/repeat functionality.
-Game profiles are set-up like logitech does with the ability to map a 3 to 6 profiles to one game and switch with a single button, games profiles can auto-load if you choose.
-You can assign the pinky key as a 2nd profile key, or a modifier key that works specifically for the mouse alone. This means you can make it to where your thumb buttons will do something different if you toggle that thumb button or you can assign it to hold mode like shift/ctrl modifiers in most MMOs.
-Easy DPI switching.
-Auto-fire toggles for the LMB and RMB, they are placed well.

Cons:
-Some keys cannot be rebound or assigned macros. The DPI changer, LMB, RMB, and profile/shift keys. You can pretty much only rebind/macro the thumb buttons.
-The Auto-fire toggles (orange keys alongside the scroll wheel) will hold down LMB or RMB for whichever you press, but I would have liked the option for them to spam the key if I wished rather then hold. Some games have semi-automatic rifles and holding doesn't auto-fire such guns if it expects you to press LMB repeatedly. Of course nothing is stopping you from binding a thumb button to do such an action, but it would have been nice to see in the auto-fire toggle options.
-The thumb directionals can be tricky to assign if you want it for an ability/action rather then movement. It takes a lot of practice to not hit the wrong one, most games I have them all do the same ability.

Semi-pro: If you do want it as a movement pad you do have the awesome option in shooters of pressing down one it while moving and it slows your mouse look. This is its precision aiming feature and works like zoom without the zoom, can be disabled.​

Thank you, ALL of you for your honest opinions and input on this post. I went to Best Buy today to put my hands on different Mice. I also got my hands on a Nostromo; veddy nice! Anyhow, after being able to put the Naga and the G600 in my hands, I've decided to go with the G600. It's meatier and fits better. I really like the angled contour of the side buttons too. So, for me, G600 wins out due to fit and feel.

Follow up question: Spending this kind of $$$ on a mouse, should I invest in a good mousepad? If so, which one? I currently use an old fabric covered, neoprene one with a gel wrist rest.

Man I use an old strategy guide on a pillow and seem to play just as well as everybody else but some people swear by one mouse pad or another.

 

I've been using the same ole Office Depot cheap-o cloth mouse pad for the past 10 years. Works great, has no stutter or anything on it. I wouldn't "invest" in a mouse pad.

 

I have a razer vespula and don't really notice any improvement over my plastic samurai mouse pad I received as a gift with a pair of jeans from that company. The steel series I-2 looks pretty nice and it would stay cool which I would be nice. Other than aesthetic appeal though I doubt it would do anything.

 

I think any mouse pad is a good one. I didn't use one for a while and getting one didn't effect my game performance too much so for me it is just about protecting the desk and pads on the bottom of the mouse. If yours does that, mission accomplished. Also if it is a nice thick pad you have the comfort of resting your palm when not deep in action, so you have that.

 

I hadn't seen it before today. Added to the wish list.

There does seem to be an issue with cursor jumping, but it looks like a software issue. For the meanwhile keep the profiles on your computer, and keep enhance pointer precision turned off.
