So its not really tech, but it is audio stuff. Anyway, Newegg deal right now on some Martin Logan speakers. This is a great speaker brand and I would be willing to bet these speakers here are easily better than 90% of the speaker systems you can buy on the market:

With audio, many people think "this sounds fine" or "that is perfectly acceptable". But in reality, you have no idea what you are missing in your sound until you hear something exceptionally better. You will hear things you have never heard in your movies and music before.

This is a spot on review for the speakers below. Personally I would not waste my time, however I am a speaker snob as my to mains are 2k Spendor A5. But I want to make something clear, If you hook up a Yamaha receiver to these speakers, they will still sound like shit. ie the martins. Regardless these are an older model, but they will still sound good compared to what most people are rocking these days.

Regardless the martins will be light years better then the trash you will find around. It is a decent price for a 5.1 entry for the only purpose is movie watching.

Looks like I'm late to the thread but I wanted to chime in on what Enigma is saying regarding not knowing what you're missing with off the shelf speakers. It is night and day. I have this 7.1 setup from Klipsch and it is truly phenomenal (no, I didn't pay the price listed there, about 1/4 that through employee discounts). You literally can not believe the difference when listening to such high fidelity speakers. It's hard to describe but you will be blown away if you ever get the chance to listen to a good home theater setup. Music, movies, whatever, you will enjoy them all so much more.
