Because the Large Hadron Collider is about to be switched on. Sure, collisions don't start till mid October, but we should never let the facts stand in the way of a doomsday scenario.
Well the first beam completed its journey without any problems. Looks like we have till late October to prepare for Unforeseen Consequences.
at least i have a pub quiz team name "they turned it on and hannah montana is still here... god dammit"
I heard about this waaay back in June. It was supposed to be turned on in August, but I guess it was delayed. That basically means that if there was a problem, we would all have died in August and none of you would have known why.... fail.
Hah, it's funny what lengths the media will go to these days to sensationalize a story. The particles this thing create are less harmful than the ones that hit the atmosphere every day.
We all did because its been posted about in the forums multiple time this is just an reminder that its starting and that we should be ready for the end soon.
You should be their top scientist... they already make the particles go 99.9% the speed of light. Some flames on the side could push it over the edge! ;p
But isn't the fact that they are accelerating particles to so nearly the speed of light sort of the equivalent of, say, putting real flames on the inside?
