Have yall ever thought of getting an IRC channel on a server for players to idle in? Being able to chat with each other might also help people to get to know other people? I'd be willing to set this up or help set it up.

I used to use IRC with clans that i was in previously, it was just good for a laugh and getting to know people and you did get the odd few come in and inquire about joining.

There used to be an IRC channel but I think most people just use TS now to chat.

IRC used to be essential for games like CS/TF in setting up matches, broadcasting, etc. Now, maybe not so much.

I am still a user of IRC, but that is more so because I use it for anime and chatting on a server I have been on for 6/7/8 years.

I was never much a fan of the gamesurge network, always preferred Rizon over it.

Irc is great for FPS games as far as getting scrims and pug matches . I'm pretty sure we had one for XoO back in the day but don't know how much use it actually saw.
But if its free its me .can't hurt to have one I guess.

We started out on IRC. Actually had a channel before having a website. Pre-Planetside days it was generally about 60 people hanging out. After release of the game it dwindled quickly.

It's a great place for our new players to hang out while waiting for the game.

It seems there has been a resurgence in it lately, for years I never even heard anyone mutter anything about IRC.

When WoW was young and I was on the Warsong server we had a #Warsong IRC channel were people gathered for various reasons. It's not really a resurgence, it just takes a group of old geeks to organize. :D

What are the things that you prefer about it? Don't most gamers use gamesurge?

    Yay for quakenet.

I remember using IRC for Quakin', and then eventually CS way back when it was young for recruiting and talking, I think that was the last time I used it.

Would be awesome to get IRC going again, good times in those rooms.

I offered to setup a XoO IRC network on a 100mbit connection. I prefer to have a dedicated XoO IRC network instead of using another network. If there is enough interest we should seriously consider it.

What would it offer that XoO doesn't already have in TS and the forums?

If there's any need for it, I'd be happy to idle there.

I suppose it'd be a prettier, fancier version of Teamspeak's lil' chat box. :D

Kinda got a point, not many people use the TS chat box, so I'm not quite
certain we would have enough for an IRC channel that would use it enough.

    Being idle is always fun.
