Survey, Web Site Indicate Planetside 2 is in the Works

Huge buzz going around the Planetside community today as a survey email said to come from Sony Online Entertainment reveals plans "to expand the Planet Side universe with another game." Also, someone found SOE registered Planetside2.com on Sept. 21.

The email sought help from "loyal player(s) and experienced shooter fan(s)" in designing this next game. "Don't worry about the original PlanetSide, it isn't going anywhere," the mail assures.

The independent site Planetside Universe found the Web site registration, and also reports that it reached John Smedley, the CEO of SOE, who said only, "PlanetSide fans will be happy We have big things planned in the next 12 months. We're working on something new that's really cool."

I have emailed the press contact for SOE to ask if they'd like to shed any more light on this. Should we get a response, I'll update with it here

I will personally be keeping a close eye on any and all news coming in on this...should there be any.

SOE just sent out a mass e-mail to PlanetSide subscribers new and old with a rather interesting proposition...

Well well well, it appears we may have a successor to PlanetSide in the works! We are going to attempt to see if we can get some more information about this breaking news. Some of the questions included in the survey were "How many Factions should there be" and "What do you think of Micro Transactions". They also asked questions abuot what games you play currently and how you like them. Some examples are Tribes, Left 4 Dead and Team Fortress 2.

To add some fuel to the fire John Smedley had some interesting posts on his Twitter Feed a few weeks back. "PlanetSide Next..." "you will like."

I don't know, they screwed PS up pretty good... tried to turn it all into just large base fight in one area instead of fights all over the place... I will never forgive them for broadcast warpgates, or shields with mods in them so you couldn't do spec ops missions to cut off perks...

Even I might pay attention to that, and I had zero interest of any kind in the original.

Well, maybe the fact that it was an MMOFPS made me think "that's interesting" because nobody had done one before, but other than that...

Regardless if it's something XoO was good at and could be again, it's at least worth a thought.

I still believe that XoO was closest in Planetside. Probably of course that it was our only game until SWG came around, but the outfit within the game, the amount of cooperation and coordination that the entire community had was bar-none. We were the best of Emerald, and everyone knew our name. When we hit a continent, the VS followed *us*. My greatest memories are the huge battles we partook against The Enclave and Sturm Grenadier, the top outfits of the TR and NC respectively.

Sunday night outfit assaults, sitting in teamspeak with over 60+ XoO members, everyone separated into different channels, officers and leaders in command chat...The amount of communication we had, the command chat coordination...It was all pure perfection. Sitting in the sanctuary preparing...The 15 odd Reavers and Mosquitos of the Air Division, the 20+ Magriders of the Armoured division and the 2-3 Galaxies packed full of the Infantry Division...It was a true sight to behold. Then Me and the Air Division flying in balls first to the battle, scouting and clearing the area of exterior forces; setting up a perimeter, the Armoured division rolling in and clearing the interior and holding the inside of the walls, and then the Galaxies coming down and dropping the guys on the roof as they flood into the base and take it over.

No game XoO has ever supported has since given me the thrill or the memories that Planetside did. When I read that PS2 is finally getting some light...My head almost exploded. I giggled like a fucking schoolgirl. I know we have eons to wait for this, but if it's anything like PS *was*, this could bring back the greatest time in XoO's history.

All I know is this. When PS2 hits, Xen will dominate it.

  12. You Vanu traitor you.

Anyway, I filled in that questionnaire and boy did I ever give them a whole list of ideas in the suggestion box at the end. Planetside 2 could seriously be a good game. If only the dev's try not to make it an FPS that's trying to be an RPG and vice versa and for once make sniper rifles capable of delivering headshots.

We were actually VS because we wanted to make our mark as the underdogs.

There is no question pheonixdog I remember the days vividly even today we we all were doing the spec ops. Hell I remember when we first came up with the idea and did our first run of missions. Those were absolutely the days. As much as I dislike what they did to PS if there is a second I'm SOOOOOO there.
