Outlast: 3 Minute "Review"

    My take on the game -- a fail of a horror game. Just like most horror games these days.

    The moment you realize that you can lose pursuers by just "hiding" in some of the easiest to get places placed in just about every single room...

    There's nothing to this game, aside from jump-scares (which can startle, but not scare) and random dicks hanging around, in both meanings of that statement.

    A real horror game takes your view on how things should work and then warps it in a way that challenges your set views about the world. Dead Space 1's regenerator is such an example. If only for a few minutes, the game actually becomes scary, because all your attempts to kill it just fail. Up until that point, you kill everything that jumps out of the walls with an audible sigh at how boring it all is, then the regenerator hits and all your previous tactics become useless. A defining point in the game.

    Yeah, once you figure out the routine of "Okay, where's the hiding spot.. Oh, right here. Now if I can remember how to get back to it, nothing can get me". Except for that one time when the guy just decided to open the locker I was hiding in. That was pretty ridiculous.
