So ive been using my 17" LG Flatron for the past 2 years and im starting to think its time to upgrade it a bit. Had a few suggestions of monitors - all widecreen. Now im not a huge fan of widecreen monitors or large screens (like to be able to see everything on the screen in FPS games >.>) but will take one if its good =p Looking at either a 20" or 22" so any suggestions are appreciated. www.ebuyer.com is the main site i get stuff from. You can go too big ;p I play FPS games aswell as MMOs and i like being able to see the entire screen easily as it really does help in game catching a small movement etc without having to look around the screen. (Might sound weird but thats how i play - mostly play by sound and tiny movement that i can react quickly to =p The CoD4 guys will know what i mean xD) 17" is good for this but i just want to upgrade a bit for the MMOs - Aion especially and therefore set my limit at 22". The amount i have to spend also tends to stop me going for a large screen size. Around £130 + shipping.
Im trying to get one that has a ratio of 20,000:1 =p if not at least 10,000:1 with a 2ms response time. PS. 800:1 is a shocking contrast ratio
24" is way too big if you're used to an old 17". I had a 24" that I sold because it was too big. I just bought a Samsung 22" P2270, which does 1080p and is 16:9 wide. (Aion doesn't work well with my triple display setup) CoD4 shows more content on the screen at 4:3 configurations though .I remember a significant drop in my k/d ratio when I switched from a 19" 4:3 to a 24" 16:10... well significant enough to notice, but not a huge deal. The opposite happened when I went back to my 19". The P2270 and P2250 have 50,000:1 ratios
FYI, contrast ratio doesn't really mean anything. Manufacturers can and do doctor the numbers by testing it in different ways. This explains it. Basically, manufacturers are kinda leading customers on (gasp!) with big numbers, since they quote their dynamic contrast ratios which mean little.
Thats what i was trying to explain before. I couldnt play for crap on my mates 24", its just too big to be able to watch the whole screen at once.
^^ This. But I can understand if your playing FPS games competitively why you'd want a smaller screen. I just wanted to post my 28 inch for the great price incase anyone else was interested. For MMO's it's more then perfect.
Unless you're doing color correction, I recommend going with an inexpensive 22 or 24" but just make sure you get one that does FULL 1080P. I just bought a 24" with HDMI and the full monty for 190. Don't even mess with 1680 x 1050 when you can get real 1920 x 1080 for basically the same money.
