I vomited right after the narrator started yapping.

  5. Too many other games releasing this year. This one doesn't stand out

Infomercial on kotaku was fucking awful. Hadn't even realised that was there. Also, as fas i know this has nothing to do with any previous neverwinter games. Savatores books and this game are setting up a huge overhaul to the workings of the DnD world from what I read.

The foundry looks like a really cool tool this game will have. One feature i would say that sets far apart from any other mmo afaik.

XoO created dnd maps for some xoo dungeon romps. I know there was a thread somewhere of people playind dnd.

  8. They'd have to pay me that $200 to use a dark elf.

[Edit: Trailer makes the game look pretty lame. If it wasn't free, I wouldn't consider it.]

While I wouldn't spend 200 to play a drizzt like character why the hate for drow?

  10. The answer is right there: Drizzt.

  11. Meh. I don't get where the hate comes from. The books are interesting as long as you don't overdose but it is ironic that the author himself tried to stop writing to character so he can move on. I am more of a fan of Artemis Entreri tbh.

I very much enjoyed the sellswords trilogy and his resurgence in the latest books. I have come to enjoy Jarlaxle being around more than any other character.

  13. I watched some gameplay videos from the 1st beta weekend. It looks pretty fun. I might check this game out.

Looks like playing icewind dale with friends. Win in my book.

Icewind Dale Trilogy is one of my all time favorite trilogies. It's up there with the original Chronicles Trilogy (the reason I started and still do read fantasy) and the Legends Trilogy. When I was younger, Drizzt was awesome, and I couldn't wait for the next book. As I've aged, so have my tastes, which may be why I'm such a fan of Jarlaxle and Artemis. To me, these two are a little more complex and more "human" than a lot of the characters I've come across over the last two decades. Another author I recommend is David Eddings. When you take into account this dude didnt start writing til he was in his 50's; what he has accomplished is amazing.

This is about to prompt another thread...although I'm sure we've done it before years ago...

And RPing. Yeah, I said it...

  17. I am thinking I will check this game out when it drops (not spending money on it right away). I'm going to see if I can interest some of my friends as well. Anyway we'll see how it goes but maybe we can get a thread of players names in the Other Games and play together (if it works out).

Icewind Dale and Icewind Dale 2 never won me over as much as Baldur's Gate 1 + 2. I am with you on the look of fun. I played WAY TOO MUCH of DDO waiting for Diablo 3 and Guild Wars 2. Sadly with such a small play time the size of GW makes it harder to get into compared to D3 where an hour seems like a lot of time. That said NW might be too much of a commitment for my limited play time.

I am VERY curious about the whole toolset bit.
I loved Neverwinter Nights because of the player-made content (am running through NWN 1 these days when time permits).

Allowing player-made content in an MMO can both be a great idea but also potentially disasterous.
Gameplay, on the other hand, looks pretty generic. I like that it's trying the aim-to-shoot deal like TERA rather than the old-school target-and-button-mash deal.

  19. Well DDO was a tab target/action blend. Saw a stream and it raised an eyebrow at least, F2P, so why not try it out.

Indeed, I do believe we have had this discussion in the past ;)

Also got me to thinking that the ho-hum story of guild wars 2 may not be a problem in Neverwinter since they have the entirety of the forgotten realms lore to draw from and the user created content. Also would be cool to recreate some of the zones in Icewind dale with the toolset and play through them. I wonder just how much of a hand salvatore had in this game, if any, other than setting it up with his book.

The Icewind Dale games were actually what got me into Salvatores writing. I only played a little bit of Baldurs Gate and NWN. I may start playing some more DDO just to get back into the whole dungeons and dragons thing..... along with finishing off Neverwinter and Charons Claw :/
