Hey! Well, before Aion release I would like some new music and some old ones that are good to listen to as I play. I'm into anything examples are like breaking benjamin, the legion of doom, evanscene, and music related to that. Tecnho, hiphop, and little rap. I like all kinds but I would something similiar to legion of doom n what not. I guess thats rock.

    Thanks guys! =D

Please... Kyoji probably fails at music like he fails at other things. <3

Krazy, if you like Evanesence, check out Nightwish, which is a similar band. (if you don't already listen to them).

I don't listen to techno, hiphop, rap, pop, or anything that doesn't use "real" instruments and is otherwise not "real" music, but rather various sounds and vocals thrown together.

Check out Betrayer at http://betrayer.ca . you can download their songs free and they kick ass!

I am not saying Kyoji gets to pick the music, just compile it and make it available to us based on the community feedback :D

Simple. Anything that creates sound but doesn't incorporate any type of computer to achieve that sound.

It's like the difference between painting and photography. Or analogue and digital.

You really shouldn't limit your self. Broaden your music horizons.

and photography and painting both have famous and very talented people..and not sure what you mean by analog and digital..but ill take analog

Real instruments can be played acoustically and have a very distinct tone. Now, this is a grey area generally because of the things like the Hammond B3 Organ and Electric Pianos, these are very much a major incorporation into most musical styles, such as Pop Rock, Jazz, all the way into Black Metal.

It's really hard to generalize a "real" instrument from a "fake" instrument. Music is enhanced SO heavily by technology these days, that the songs that you listen to on the radio have been heavily tweaked, and compressed, and thrown through some many effects channels it's practically not even the same instrument anymore in most cases.

Music is a very personal thing and it's like that old saying goes "one man's terrorist is another man's freedom fighter" and the same can go for music, to someone who LOVES Hip Hop, he may absolutely despise Rock, because it doesn't connect to him like Hip Hop does. What is connected in all styles of music is the rhythm, the feeling of a beat, however that beat may come across, even in Death Metal where the drums are doing blast beats and the bass drum is nothing but 16th. note triplets the entire time at 160 bpm, it's still a relevant beat.

Also, the pentatonic scale plays a MAJOR role in defining music as a whole, forms of harmony, though may have been wrong in the Renessaince Era of music, is now widely accepted, such as the Blues Pentatonic scale, with the flat 5th. added to the sequence of notes.

All in all, diatonic harmony combined with a good back beat can make anything music, but the grey area comes in in how it is developed and what the persons personal taste in music is. If you don't like electronically triggered music then that's fine. But think of this, the man who makes those beats, he does it by himself, on a keyboard, or in Logic, stringing together ALOT of different effects, ever try to use Logic? It's hard, really hard, it takes talent to do that sort of stuff, it's not wrong to not like a style of music, but don't diss the musical talent that's involved. Ever try to rap? Hard as hell if you don't practice. Like anyhting in music, it ALL takes talent, even if it doesn't sound like there's much talent here.

I was poking fun but love the well thought out and balanced answer, samakar. I think it's pretty unfair to deny anything that can produce sound the right to be called an instrument. Furthermore, I would hope that anyone who would choose to establish strict boundaries and definitions for what the 'correct' or 'true' or 'real' set of instruments are would do so in the context of genre and locale.

a heavy metal band takes their instruments to an r&b group, would the r&b group find all their equipment useful? would a 90's grunge band out of seattle be able to produce their music with only the equipment that a sweedish techno group used? or, how useful is a royal court gamelan to a blues or maybe a skat group? I guess the point that I wanted to make is that everything (every instrument) holds different value based on the context of the music that is being produced.

    Just analogies.

Painting is done by hand and requires a lot of skill/talent, while photography not as much when compared to painting. Although good photographs still require a certain degree of skill, I think it's fair to say that painting a photo-realistic image is megatons more difficult than pressing the "snap" button.

@Samakar: Although you're a professional musician and I respect you for that, I do have some differences:

To me, using methods or devices that amplify. distort, or compress notes played by an acoustic instrument is fine because the source is still an acoustic instrument.

I know other methods of producing rhythmic sound require some degree of skill, however I don't think anything is more difficult than playing an acoustic musical instrument. Also, having a ton of friends that can produce tunes using Logic very easily doesn't help either...

Sure rapping is difficult but rapping itself is a form of singing, and singing is different from music imo :p

The reason why I don't consider computers to be real instruments (and thus producing real music) is because they aren't. You can't say "yeah, I play the computer... I got a gig tonight". You can't take it with you and play it on the go. It's something that's calculated, planned out, and recorded. You only ever hear the recorded version.

It's not insulting, just proper jargon/terminology. I've got a friend who listens to computer synthesized music like hiphop, pop, etc, and I told him to say he doesn't listen to music when someone asks "what music do you listen to"... because, well, it's not.

i have to disagree. song is music. voice is music.
i'll even get all academic with it and claim that talking and conversation is music.

I can get academic about this one as well.

The voice is a musical instrument. You warm it up like an instrument and you use it like an instrument, you practice it like an instrument, running scales and warm up procedures. The voice has a different function than that of a guitar. It's not layed out in front of you like other instruments, such as a piano, or a guitar. Your approach to the voice is different, being more visual than anything else.

The voice has layers and effects that can be used just by the strength of our vocal chord muscles. The voice is THE oldest musical instrument in the worlds history. Even as a child, we are already talking, screaming, and crying in perfect 5ths. and major third harmonies. The voice is probably the hardest instrument in the world because there is a natural fear that holds back most of what you do, but it just takes some control and allowing your mind to revert back to a more primal version of yourself, where you can let go, without thinking of being judged by society.

Anybody can sing, you just need to practice. Singing is the one thing that takes probably the most talent and skill to do, but is something that anybody can technically do, if that makes any sense.

Rubius, you should look up some documentaries about singing and the voice in general, it's incredible what you'll find.

And you only have it half right. They use sequenced sounds that were recorded by real musicians, they construct drum beats, and construct harmonies. If a song has a good drum beat/beat, and it has harmony, diatonic or not, it's a song, and it's music.
