Thats a cool thing but if it takes 2 weeks to see what you've done, I don't think it would be very good for many things
Someone needs to explain the laser part to me. Is it like a hologram? Is it realtime? If no video camera is used, how does the consumer see it? Is it like a 3D rendering?
Yea its basically 3D rendering, if you watch the video they show an example from the music video. It looks really neat.
The data could be used to make a hologram. The video said it took weeks to process the data to see anything. So there is no realtime. The consumer sees what the rendering program does with all the data. I could see the data being used in a 3D renderer. You could say it is similar to sonar but, instead of using sound to determine distance they use lasers. The lasers are also probably more precise, that is why they could pick up the power lines at range. Side note: Would the lasers be more precise, accurate, or both? In this case I believe precision would be the resolution or how detailed the image is. Accuracy would be the offset to where the data says the object is relative to where it actually was.
So are lasers the medium? I still don't quite get it. What do the lasers actually do? Are they drawing lines with lasers? I watched the clip from the Radiohead video, and it just looked like 3D rendering to me.
The lasers are just measuring distance. Each of the dots, in those videos, represents a data point. Where a laser measured a distance. What you do with all that data is up to the user.
