I just had the privilage to watch this outstanding movie. This is scifi done right. The plot was engaging, action was spectacular and believable while not going over the top. The film was shot in a BBC documentary style which added depth to the story along with the undertones of humanities strengths and weakness of charicter. For all you half life 2 fans there is even the appearance of an antigravity gun. This movie was just plan awesome and I highly recommend it for everyone to see. In my opinion this movie is the best that I have seen all year and deserves to get nominated for best picture. If it doesn't it is because it is a scifi movie which would be a shame for it to pigeonholed as such.
really wow I thought it was a crappy movie, the previews made it look good but damn 90% of the people in the theater got up and left
Overall I liked it. Nothing really blew me away, though I do enjoy seeing people get blown up. I think it's a little too hyped but over all I had a good time. I would say 6.5/10 for my rating. Taken is still the best movie of 2009.
deffinetly a movie i have saw previews for and will see at some point another one that lloks kinda good is 2012 thats is look it up on google and watch some clips looks good....
I've heard good and bad reviews for this movie; the previews looked good but they always do most the time
Forgot to post my opinions.. Tbh I went in expecting to be let down by the hype.. but I have to say it's one of the best movies I have ever seen. The story was great, acting was great, and FX were fucking awesome. So many twists in the plot especially near the end, and it sets it up for #2...I think I'm gonna go see this movie again in theatres
Too bad Taken was released in 2008? >.> I thought District 9 was a fantastic movie, one of the few I really felt was worth the full price movie ticket, and one I would pay full price to see again. I may do that this weekend actually... I am not easy to please with movies, but I really enjoyed this one. Nice to see some original script work instead of reconstituted comic books and/or remakes of old movies or crappy books-into-movies (crappy books, or half-assed movies, or both? >.>)
it's original release date was in 2008, but it's US release date was in Jan2009. Probably where val got the number from I saw it '08 though
Taken was a crock of shit by comparison. It felt like every season ever of 24 condensed into two hours. I didn't know what to expect out of District 9, given that all I knew about it was it had aliens, some commentary on apartheid, and was produced by Peter Jackson. I'm not too sure the documentary-style beginning worked, but that kind of went out the window once the movie got into full swing. This is an alien movie I haven't seen before a million times, even if it turned out as much a splatterfest as every other movie with Peter Jackson in the credits.
This movie was really good because it is a different take on aliens, kinda like Alien Nation was. Best movie I've seen in a long time, except I could have done without the documentary camera shaking. That gets real old and is so overdone these days. Other than that, the movie was pretty amazing. The effects were truly incredible and subtle. Spoiler One inconsistency I saw was that if the prawns were so easily bullied and pushed around, why didn't the Nigerian gangsters just bully them into using the weapons for them. "I'll give you 10 cans of cat food per day if you follow me around and shoot what I point at" etc etc. Seems like they would have tried THAT before eating them.
