I have a good idea for a few different member forums that are in place on another forum I frequent. Check it out:

    http://avalancheonline.com/forums/index.php

I think having an "Introduction" will help us get to know our new members better. An "Inner Grounds" would provide a place for us to vent our issues with RL with our XoO family and get some support. "Controverse"... well, we'll see. "News" and "Multimedia/Music" will help us to connect with each other in interests other than gaming and develop our camaraderie more than just people we play games with.

That forum has been there for years and years and the formula has seemed to work for them. I just think that connecting to each other across games and developing our society as a whole has been a weak point for us in the past.

Actually, I think a forum dedicated to introductions would be a great idea. Each member can make a post introducing themselves to the entire community, and if members ever need to know anything about a particular member they can search that forum for them...

I will take a look at that once I get things a bit more done for the games... things like member groups etc. :) thanks for the help on ideas, any ideas on needed/unneeded forums is great.

We aren't going back to the lose the skirt forum type deal at the moment, that will be done last if the xenate still feels it's wanted and in the best interests of the game community..

Lose the Skirt was nice for those kinds of threads that meant really nothing and didn't have a place on other forums, like the "OMG I have [Number] posts" kind of threads, or game threads fit perfectly into there.

I am not saying it won't be back, but when it was created there was a lot of people not happy with it's creation. ;) So we will look into that again and see if it's needed or if we can just keep things mature in the general chat sections and avoid those spammy posts ;)
it's pretty low priority to start out with though ;)

I think it would be great if we had more connections between games so that you can get to know people you dont play with an intro thread would be great for that

That has been something that has bothered me ever since we branched out from Planetside. There seems to be just too much isolation from different divisions.

I think that the game forums should be used for setting up builds, strategies and scheduels and then leave the socializing in the common forums

That isn't a bad idea Zarash. You mean the games forums should only be dedicated to member information only (ie. CoD's being TWL matches/strategies, or GW's build setups), and have no public forums for games, and only common publics? I like it a lot.

  10. Yeah, before it was one name, many clans, many games.

Then it would be one name, one clan, many games!

I wholey support this idea. I probably only know a fraction of our community basically because they're playing games i'm not. A few ideas from my warped brain:

    Forums:

Socialising accross all divisions. This includes ONE 'show your face' thread for pictures :p One introductions thread no game specific shenanigans. I don't mind the lose the skirt forum, but i do tend to ignore it because my time online is better spent elsewhere. If i want random shit i'll go to 4chan or elsewhere for it. But i have nothing against it personally.

Game news. Not specific to supported divisions. I just tend to find that I only look at the public forums for the games i'm interested in and miss out on stuff going on in other games. So, game announcements, milestones, press events, trailers, expansions, new games in development etc.

Guild Announcements. Guild specific news, appointments, global(XoO) events

Achievements. All achievements should be announced imo. We should celebrate our victories more and keep them all in one place, would also mean we can link to it from outside to show accolades etc.

Grievance forum. One forum for problems with the way divisions and XoO as a whole is run. We're all adults here, there should be no cover-ups, no conspiracies no hidden agendas. A XoO as a whole thread plus one for each supported division.

As far as game division specific forums go i'd like to see: No access restriction to any game forum for XoO members. This pisses me off no end. I see a topic on the recent posts list and click on it only to be refused access because i'm not a member of that games group. I see no reason that i shouldn't be able to post in all game specific forums, it only serves to further segregate our community. I'd like to see: Patch notes, Builds, strategies, equipment lists and requests, planned server outages, game specific events organised by XoO, a copy of that divisions code of conduct and how it differs from the main code of conduct, bugs and discussion of game systems etc.

Recruitment. I personally don't like the new design. I used to jump in and say hello to new members for Warhammer but i now have to check 3 seperate forums and it's just a pain in the ass. However, If we have a global introduction thread i only need to check that thread for all 'welcome' posts. The recruitment threads should have less waffle in them anyway, i remember people having whole discussions in there!

That's all that comes to mind right now :)

EDIT: ooh is it possible to create roster lists from the group memberships data? Would make keeping a roster of players for each division much easier.

Good ideas endless I really like the achievements and game news
Putting everything into central forums instead of game specific forums make it so that you have to check less forums everyday

Actually, if we combine some of those ideas a bit... I do think an introductions board vs a thread might be more useful for searching purposes, although it takes more space.

But if you wanted to go that way, putting the member photo stuff in those posts would probably make them easier to find too! It's anyone's guess how many people would actually use it, but there seemed to be a fair bit going on last BB.

    Media/Debate (Serious Discussion) Are important.
    A general for everything else.

Keep it concise, in my opinion. Not too many sub-forums.

What would go into the SC2 forums? There hasn't been any new news in what, 2 years? Seems like it sometimes anyway.

Introduction forum would be cool, that way I can get a better feel for each member of XoO. Specially members I don't get to interact with because they play different games.

I was a big fan of the multimedia forum, youtube links here, music there, etc etc....
