Does anyone here play airsoft? I don't mean the "backyard airsoft" with little transparent guns from walmart or sportmart. I mean 350-400fps brand name AEGs that you play in a field with.

How does that work exactly? Does it go on the honor system... I know that in paintball you can see when they have been shot. Or do you use tiny paintballs?

I've used simunition during military training. fucking good shit. It sucks when you get 2 right in the same place. Especially on the bicep. Luckily I haven't had to experience being hit often and that was the sole occasion. Many are less fortunate than myself and have taken multiple hits on the inside of the leg. Probably the worst possible place to get hit. Real life or otherwise.

I have the SP8 too : ) Lost the damn clip for it though so it looks funny.

I don't have the stock or long barrel shroud so I just have the SMG look.

It was my first gun I got from a friend when he got a new proto rail I think it was...
I find it a bit heavy though after awhile compared to the light speedball markers, which tend to work just fine for woods ball as well ;)

Airsoft really is a rare sport. Its unfortunate, considering (IMO) its more fun and definately cheaper (at first, getting started should cost about $600!) than paintball.

How does simunition work, Ryld? What kind of facial protection do you guys use with that?

The upper receiver on the C7 is exchanged with a modified receiver that will accept the simunition magazine. Instead of regualr 5.56 the ammunition is a 9mm round with gun powder and a plastic tipped paint filled capsule that is shot off the front. So the chamber is also modified to accept the 9mm in the new receiver. The barrel is also shorter. After that it works like a regualr c7. Pull the trigger it fires. Put it on safe, no dice. Mag change at proper intervals and all.

This and a jock is all the protection we are required to wear along with no exposed skin. Our uniforms take care of that part though. THose masks fucking suck, they fog up quick when in a scenario since your HR and adrenaline is going. I haven't used sim in about a year but I am told the masks are much improved now.

Makes for a good training experience. A lot of problems guys have is getting their head in the game no matter what you're doing and this helps put you in it. The best training is the training you treat as real. I've mostly used this stuff for FIBUA/OBUA/CQC whatever you want to call it. Rounds are fired at ~490 fps and you aren't supposed to shoot under 1m ideally but 1 ft is accepted as minimum distance.

1ft / 1m minimum distance is really close for that speed, i bet that hurts ;)

The real problem I see with Airsoft is that you will have people that cheat... you already get people that wipe hits in paintball, I can only imagine what it would be like with Airsoft if it got more popular.

When paintball was smaller, people didn't cheat as much... it was a more hardcore group, and people tended to play with an honor code, but as it grew, it got more and more corrupt IMO

I think airsoft works with the honor code for the same reason... people are going out and playing for fun and know cheating will ruin the game. If it grows though to the point where it attracts tons of people, they will get the "I just want to win" people that will cheat to win as well...

What are you using for masks in airsoft Buzz? that was always the other thing that I worried about ;) I grew up with BB / Pellet guns and I know how easy they could blind someone plastic or not. Rylds mask looks about right lol... but yeah fogging even in the paintball masks which can have larger venting is a problem.

Ryld, what group are you in that trains with airsoft? My roomie is in the navy and did boarding party training, but it was the same deal as basic traing where it was just firing range and blanks if it was scenerio stuff.

As long as you have ANSI approved glasses or goggles in airsoft and a mouthguard, your fine. However different feilds may require different facial protection. The place I'm about to go to requires paintball masks because of possible stray paintballs from neighboring feilds.

yeah... what pisses me off is when you know your out of range, and you can see your shots dropping while shooting at people, yet their shots are whipping right past your head...
I also have a crack in my Halo from that. :(

The field I play at is thinking of doing spot checks on the field as people are bumping it up after they get their FPS tested. We already don't let people have tools on the field, but that is hard to police so I am sure people slip on with them...

the number of hits I take to the mask in paintball, I would be scared to play without a full mask :(
I am really paranoid about my eyes...
When ya think about it, if your hiding, the two things that come out of cover are your head and gun ;)

I wouldn't play without a full mask. For me I take special care in picking out my mask too. This comes after seeing one of my friends managed to get a ball right under the eye when playing with a cheap rental mask. I still can't figure how it happened but it left him with a mighty shiner.

Masks are such a huge part of playing the game. You have to find something that you can wear comfortably while still giving you the protection you need not to mention making sure its vented well enough that even when your breathing hard you can see clearly. I never skimp on buying a mask there more important than any other piece of equipment you buy you can win with a cheap gun but you cant shoot what you cant see.

I do the training with the military reserves up here in Canada and it is not airsoft, it's simunition. There is no paint in airsoft, afaik?

Since the safety distance is so small and we use it for urban ops in the MOUT sites the mask is like dome. The back of it is hard plastic as well. That neck guard goes all the way around aswell. Little bit of a pain in the ass. I remember at one point I was the C9 gunner and was using blanks with WES gear and had a head piece that had to be on my head to count any shots fired from the c9 except it fell off and I oculdn't tell since this hard plastic thing was there and none of my shots for the entire scenario were counted. Kills/wounds/close calls all gone. I had used something like 800 rounds and only 100 were counted I think. That was a few years ago and the gear has gotten better since then.

My roomie is canadian navy is why I was asking. I remember some friends in air cadets used to do this type stuff your talking about too, which is why I was surprised that basic training dind't include it, or his boarding party stuff.
