If this game really is going to work, they need to include as many races as possible imo. If they just went with a select few of the more popular ones then thats gonna be crappy at first unless they bring out more playable ones later on. See, Im really looking forward to playing as Eldar or Tau but I wanna see what setting/backdrop they decide to go with. WAR went with Order vs Destruction which worked well and I think something similar could be applied in 40k. Even better imo would be to have various sides making temporary truces to focus on other threats. To have alliances constantly being made and broken at the drop of a hat.
It should be all races versus all races, imho. I also hope they don't put in Tau, they have no business in the Warhammer universe, if you ask me. Tau are a byproduct of Games Workshop whoring themselves out for more marketshare (ie Stargate). Necrons as well, for the most part (ie Terminator). I'm honestly very surprised that Games Workshop hasn't added a Space Superhero faction and a Space Hobbit faction... Damn whores, that's all GW has been for the last 10 years, lol. And it's turning their lore into serious lameness. I agree they should have a lot of races to start, but if it's another 2 sided fight... Blah. Pretty boring and not really in line with the lore.
I don't think it'll matter what races or how many or how few they have. There will be tons of disappointed and cranky people because everyone has it in their head a little bit differently. I'm sure they could make a great game using just Humans at first(FFA) but I hope its not another FFA pvp system. I could see Humans vs Chaos vs Eldar. Course that would make the Greenskin people cranky but seriously how many times to you see a greenskin who thinks on their own?
As far as Tau themselves go, I like them but what I really like is the Farsight Enclave with O'shovah. Alot of mystery there about what they are and whats going on. I enjoy a bit of mystery, plus O'shovah is a XV8 suit with a sword. Thats good in my books The thing is with all races vs all others, it creates way too many sides and players would be split up way too much( Plus could you really see most clans/guilds sticking to just one race? ). I mean it would not be too bad if it was just on one server but more than likely there will be multiple shards. If they went with the lines of order vs chaos, you coud have imperium, tau and eldar vs chaos, nids, orcs and necrons ( Dark Eldar dont have that much stuff imo to be a playable race ). But there could be internal conflict going on . So the marines and eldar are fighting each other on a planet, along come a group of chaos and necrons. Well although the SM dont like eldar they hate chaos even more, same goes for eldar and necrons. SO they team up to fight the newcomers. Its a rough idea but if a system could be designed around this then i think it would be kind of interesting. Different battlegrounds could host different team setups. So you could look at your race fighting against all the others races but still be able to group up when its needed most.
Problem is that I don't see how they could create guilds that let multiple races in. Sure they could team-up for certain things but no way in hell would any race share a "home" with another.
Yeah there-in lies the biggest problem for a guild that wants to go with multiple races. Hopefully the devs will release some more information in a few months that might shed light on this. OH! I just had a great image of what 40k mmo should be like. Think of 40k played like gears of war! Awsome!
This is going to be great. I agree that WAR isn't as "dark and gritty" as I was hoping; it's more dark humor. See you there in three years T.T
Lets just collect the models to kill time then , If only there was a way we could play with them against each other online.... I know there is a way i just cant remember how it was done.
They will split all the races into 2 armies like they did in WAR, it just doesn't make any sense any other way from a developer perspective.
Why not? RF Online was surprisingly fun with 3 sides. Same with old EQ1 pvp servers (I think they were 4 sides). They need more than 2 sides, imho. 2 sides makes for some dull ass politics and strategy.
Less content to create, it could possibly end up being 3 sides or 4, but it deff wont be every race on its own
Ah but it would be something new to have a good deal of races against each other. And 'new' is what the mmo market desperately need.
Most MMOs are to risky to explore new ideas in though, most new ideas are introduced in the RTSs and the FPSs and the RPGs, and then the ideas that work are eventually translated into the MMOs, so very rarely do you see new in an MMO, you just see the whats already been explored on a much grander scale.
Unfortuntely you are right, but that doesn't change what the game should be. Heheh. 3 years seems like too long for it to be a Warhammer clone, however, so I'm hoping they do it right. ie: all races vs all races. That alone creates a huge resevoir of PvP content they can work from. You'd think by now developers have the "pve content" thing down to a cookie cutter science. You know that's all it's going to be anyway. Collect X doohickeys, Escort Mr Dumbshit, Kill X Entities... Creating content is as mindless as it is playing it. A developer is completely retarded if they use that excuse as a limiting factor in how they want the overall game to be. If a developer is saying that, the game is fail before it's even made. Unless they are going to step outside the box, which you just brought up that they never do.
Well I think with this 40k mmo, they have the opportunity to present something new to the table and dont have to worry too much about people shying away from it. Its warhammer 40k! there will be alot of people playing this for the name only. It was the same thing with warhammer online, they would always have people willing to try it out ( even though fantasy is less popular than 40k imo ) but the game just didnt hit the mark like it could have done, it was a polished and simple version of DAoC. There was some new stuff there sure, but nothing that was incredibly noteworthy to be honest. The devs with the 40k mmo have a good amount of time and a absolouty huge universe of lore to work with. Plus Games Workshop will want to make sure that this is the next big thing so they are going to really push it to its limits and rightly so. They should still make it a planetside type of game imo
3 way isn't enough either for Warhammer games. They need to take the plunge and do it free for all versus other races. You could put in ways to make treaties and have zones that are neutral but I would love to see a game thats more true to the actual game and story.
