Is this the review your talking about ? Because, after reading it, I get the impression that he is just looking for things to complain about. His complaints range the stupid (complaining that the film has FTL) to the ones that show he wasn't paying attention: Spoiler Like this bit: The logic is also a little puzzling when Scotty can beam people into another ship in outer space, but they have to physically parachute to land on a platform in the air from which the Romulans are drilling a hole to the Earth’s core. Here he missed two things: 1 - The drilling beam jammed the transporters. There are plenty of things that jam transporters, so transporters being jammed isn't new for Trek. 2 - Scotty's long range transporters didn't work until the older Spock provided him with the equations needed to finish the theory. Which weren't provided until after the parachute sequence. If he doesn't like it, fair enough. Some people just don't like Sci-Fi. But if he is going to complain about the details, he had better get those details right. Me, I liked it.
That's one of the thing I never understood with professional reviewers in general. I understand the guy is paid a lot of money to review every movies coming out... but if he doesn't like Sci-fi movies in general, why not just skip this one? I hate Horror Movies and Romantic Comedies, they start at like 5/10 in my mind... usually dropping to 3/10 or so. If I was paid to review movies, I would refuse to review that kind of movies because I know there is no way I can be objective and review them like someone that enjoy these movies. I mean it just makes sense... It's obvious from his various reviews that this guy hates most action/sci-fi movies.
You'd think as a professional tho he'd be able to get passed hating a certain genre and watch it for what its worth and comment on that. But to make mistakes like he did in his review is just ridiculous. Then again I hate critics cause they like some of the shittiest movies and give bad reviews to good movies
Which is even stranger because he's usually fairly generous to sci-fi. He loved Star Wars, which is even less believable then Star Trek. I'm going to see it today or tomorrow now that the crowds have died down.
Problem is that movie reviews are opinion tempered with keeping the advertisers happy and/or keeping the websites traffic up*. Trying to be professional means removing his personal opinion, leaving only the interests of the people paying for the review. *How many of you would of read his review if it was another good review ? If any of you care about how well the movie treated science, read this. But only after you have seen the movie.
Awesome movie! I loved it - casting was great, storyline well handled etc. It was so good that even my wife loved it - and her and sci-fi don't usually mix! See it now!
The actual science isnt something I pay too much attention too but it was a really interesting read. everything that guy said about the movie was perfect.
