Just found some information about the magic system. Here you guys go. Magic The majority of spells that deals with real-time PvP have been classified as “Battle Magicâ€Â. By reducing the number of Battle Spells (to about 20), we’ve managed to work out a system where strategy, tactics, actions and reactions define the outcome in a mage-duel. There are very few, if any, “buffs/debuffsâ€Â. There are very few types of damage or resistances in PvP (no fire, water, earth, wind, holy, unholy etc.). In short, you have to have good coordination and you must really try to read your opponent to be successful. In many ways, it’s comparable to old UO (The Battle Magic is separated from the other Magic Schools that deals with semi- or non-direct PvP magic, like summons, enchantments, music etc. Also, in PvE creatures will deal different types of damage and there will be different kinds of resistances and spells to affect them. But those systems will not interfere with the PvP.) We are currently evaluating two types of spell casting: 1. The first system is based on targeting, where you switch between the targets in your Target List. Some spells are simply auto-aiming, some requires that you face the opponent, and some requires that you actually aim and “hitâ€Â them. 2. The second system is based on aiming-only, like a FPS. The first system means that once you’ve targeted your opponents, you have to use coordination (and sometimes aiming) to be successful, but in a way it’s less “fps-interactiveâ€Â. The problem with the second system is that aiming-only gets very twitch-based and more like a shooter. Also, the number of Combat Spells will probably have to be even more reduced - compare it to a FPS-game where you have to keep track of 20+ weapons and how to counter them while moving around
what do you meen? they will actualy stick to their guns and do a lot less that the standar MMO in for the inmercion and Role Plaing. in a standar MMO you will see a global chat/guild chat/group chat/trade, etc. they will remove them all and just have the standar tell, the guild chat once you have a guild big engough to be a candidate to the feat, and if you have X feat you can even hear a wisper from other character. and you can only see hear what is around you. that all RPG gratness. it adds to the inmertion of the game. and i dont think they are adding anything new, they are taking away many of what the players want, for the sake of inmertion and i hope they stick with it.
It doesn't add anything if no-one uses it. That's the big problem with their carrier pigeon deal and overheard "whispers". No-one's going to use them, because they're utterly inferior to voice comms.
i think having an idea and sticking to it, is good. you will not always will use voice comms to chat, especialy with the other players that are not in the same guild as you.
I suppose if you're inclined to talk to people outside your guild that might come into play. I can't say sticking to an idea is always a good thing, though, when it's a bad idea in the first place.
This is horrible lolz. No global or regional chat channels = fail. I've played other mmo's in the past that have tried things along this line. It sucked. Guess what you're playing if you can't communicate with other people playing the same game? A SINGLE PLAYER GAME! All this is going to do is make some bored programmers create a simple app that everyone will download and have running in the background just so they can have a friggin chat channel. "-There will be /whisper/tell to people nearby. But /whispers/tells may be overheard by people with good hearing skill or lip-reading skill." WTF? A /tell that other people can hear? Are they really that retarded?
In the end they'll add more chat.. wasn't it WAR that didn't have a regional or a local one and was added.. Know it was some game just recently played.. Not sure if it was WAR..
Yes, WAR was one game that started out like that. There was some crappy F2P that tried it too... It just makes the world feel completely empty. And not being able to send /tells to anyone, anywhere along with other people being able to read them when you can send them?! Do they really honestly think people won't just start loading up MSN messenger and pretty soon the standard way to contact people will just be someones character name plus "-MO" or something at the end? There are certain things that computers and the Internet allow you to do that game companies just cannot get around, no matter how hard they try. I don't know why games still insist putting night and day in their games when turning up the gamma takes 2 seconds. If they really wanted to simulate night, they would make everything go mostly black & white. But they don't, because there is a point when realism defeats fun. But they should definately make all cyber viewable by other people in the area, I totally agree there. And they should have an area that looks like the old WoW tram tunnel of love Mmmmm.
so whats you point, dont make the gameworld feel real? players know its a game why bother? I feel that MO will try to be Role Playing game before the masses MMO. i feel that even if its a crapy game ill respect the fact they are willing to do that. i think this game aims for reality in the gameworld. to the point that if you have a lipreading ability you may be able to read other people conversations. if you dont want to be part of the game and use vent, MSN, good for you. but thats not the game they want you to play. they are doing a grate job removing the 3p view of horse raiding. there will be a night day sicle, because if done well may add a lot of game fictures. i still waiting for a dinamic game to use well a Day night cicle, to the point of diferent PvE encouters depending on the hour, resiving hide bonus, and NPC going to spleep. ala TES4. and to be honest i will like that the game will feel empy because the game will be huge it will be masive, and considering that its a full loot game, ill hope im crossing people every 5 seconds. in then end they go for the RP comunity more than the average Game player. And i think they are doing grate things to balance magic in the game for the hard core PvPers. And global is only good in a PvE where you need to pug, to do something. and to be honest Global chanels usualy are filled with trolls and inmature people to the point i usualy turn it off till the monet i need that X player to do a PvE content. in this game looks like there will not be raids at all. becuase if they keep their word of each time you kill a epic boss they stay dead for good. then it will be hard to that masive dungeon over and over again. but o well thats just me! every one has their opinion.
I hope they're smarter than that. Full open-world PvP is almost mutually exclusive with a good RP environment.
That's a good point, and if I hadn't already been in a few games that have already tried this, I would completely agree with you. But I have, so I already know firsthand what my opinion is going to be. Trolls or no, the game world in an MMO should never ever feel empty of players. It makes me feel like I'm not playing an MMO (hence wasting $15) hehehe, just imho. If they are going the realism route, I can respect that. But in a full loot, open PvP game, you have to realize that it's going to be a competition game above all else. Above PvE, above RP, above everything. And in order to compete with other people, you're going to have to do everything they do + 1. This is exactly why I quit Darkfall. In order to compete you have to grind for (a 2 month equivilant) to get your character into the real damage dealing levels. If you don't, you lose. So in Mortal Online, in order to compete you're going to have to use outside communications with your teammates (that can't be "overheard"). If you don't, you lose. I see what you're saying, and I can respect the realism thing for sure. But in a full loot, open PvP game, it really doesn't matter. In high stakes, competitive PvP, the rest of the community will roll right over you if you are in game "whispering" to everyone. In a PvE MMO the argument would be completely different heheheh.
Those are fairly much my thoughts. I'm also hoping that PvP comes down to superior skill over farming extremely rare equipment. If it doesn't, I'll be sticking to Guild Wars 2 where I know it will. It seems so obvious but there are so many MMOs out there that just waste competitive players' time with grind they don't want to do.
yeah i hope there is as little grinding as posible. where i dont need to spam a macro to do anithing. and man Guild Wars has my holy grial of PvP. i didnt need to play for extremly long time to join a pvp minigame. i loved the low level cap. and especialy i loved that if some one beat me i knew they where better players with a good build. not just some one that raided for 100 hours a week to have have the better gear to compensate for the fact they suck! lol if i suck i want to know it, so i can try to get better not to fool myself to think im good. lol. to bad EotN was at least for my taste rushed, in the end i wasent finished with a lot of the nightfall content when it came out. and the new armors realy sukked! o well ill be playing Age of Conan for a long time, if MO is not the best there is in what he does!
Yeah, that is the norm. I don't mind it when PvP is for pure sport, or it's not open pvp. Or when they reward small amounts of grind with small gains. After all, a MMO needs to have some sort of character development, but what I'm talking about is when the game mechanics themselves are forcing people to go outside the game to G15 keyboards and MSN messenger to do things in game that give them an edge (in order to compete), that's when it gets stupid. Developers should understand that people are going to have G15 keyboards, and people are going to have MSN messenger, and people are going to have gamma control... Why waste resources on game mechanics that assume you don't have these things? It's a waste, pure and simple. Like trying to make the world darker for night. Egads, they can have day and night cycles for scenery that's fine and dandy, I looooved how Darkfall did the dawn and dusk colorization of everything. But to force everyone to turn up gamma is just stupid and a waste of developer resources. Just like forcing everyone to use MSN messenger is stupid and a waste of resources.
Could not have said it better myself! I don't mind dying all day long if it's because I suck, but dying all day long because some kid has 23 hours per day to grind and I don't is kinda lame.
An MMOpvp game without a grind of some sorts is an FPS. I want some sort of grind involved with my games. A mix of pvp/pve is always the best otherwise I can just go to a CoD4 pub for free.
Grinds and character development in full loot open pvp games need to be balanced extremely carefully. That's what AV doesn't understand and I hope MO does understand. If it takes too long and there's too much disparity between low level and high level (like most MMOs), you won't get a chance to level up because you're dying and getting looted constantly with 0 chance of winning a fight. I wasn't trying to say everyone should be even with no grind, it just needs to be balanced so that lowest level characters aren't a complete 100% pushover to highest level characters. Little fish need time and space to grow or the big fish will run out of food.
