I'm American and I know American are idiots and so are many other people in the world, but I put my blame on this country because it this it's the shit and so does it's citizens. There this hubris that instilled from at at birth that makes us minds zombies who think we are the best thing since sliced bread when the reality of the situation is we are dumb and feckless.

Every American that I've talked to who at some point made a joke about Canadians would get incredibly offended and aggressive as soon as I made any kind of comment towards Americans. On the opposite side every Canadian I know who hears a joke about Canadians does not get offended and will instead go to that self-deprecating style of humor. This has probably happened 50 times. I haven't talked to the entire population of America, so I guess I can't say that 100% ALL EVERY SINGLE ONE ABSOLUTELY WITHOUT EXCEPTION American will have that attitude but it just happens that 100% so far have acted that way.

Not that any intelligent person would think that when someone says "Americans act like x" that they are implying that the ENTIRE population is acting like x without exception.

I don't think that anyone can reasonably prove to me that there isn't a significant difference between Canadian and American culture. Part of that is the overall attitude of the people. Even if there are a few exceptions I'm going to stick to my "all" statements and say 0.99... is the same as 1.

your post implies logic, yet it basically boils down to your non-scientific poll of 50 people being "1" or 100%... seems kind of foolish. i would say that probably the things said about canada were highly incorrect and silly in how uninformed the people were. and in contrast, the negative statements were probably all true about the US. there's a big difference in how much we broadcast our stupidity compared with the rest of the world, but that doesn't mean that even the average person agrees with that stupidity, the people who acted stupidly, or even the causes of it.

You've never been to another country have you. It's the same all over the world. America is no exception, we are just the loudest voice.

Eh. America is quite different from the rest of the world politically; it's the most right-wing country I can think of that holds any great sway.

Though actually, I'm not sure why people think Canadians have different accents from Americans. I haven't been able to pick it myself (well, there have been a scant few people I hear every so often who sound a little different, I guess...).

  8. I think it's because of that french accent that the east picks up...maybe.

Nah, but I'm thinking about moving to Canada. :D I know the same problem is everywhere (I hate people), but I hold America responsible for setting this false image it tries to portray to the rest of the world.

It's not that the average person will agree with the stupidity...it's that the average person is just going to be that stupid. Also, my non-scientific poll does not imply that 100% of people behave a certain way. If I were to meet another 50 Americans here then I find it unlikely that they will all be highly intelligent and informed. The "average American" is going to come here and act like a jackass, make stupid jokes about a country he knows nothing about, complain about Mexicans stealing his job, get drunk and chant "USA" very very loudly while believing his country is the best in the universe and everyone else lives in the third world. Even if they aren't all like that, it doesn't matter. Nobody else is necessarily smarter or more informed, they just don't broadcast it to the world. It's that small difference in culture that has the most effect. I don't think I've ever seen Canadians running around chanting "Canada" or anything similar. We just wrestle bears when we turn 13 to prove our strength. I'm going to take a gamble and say you didn't clearly read my entire post or this would have all been apparent. I cleaned the peanut butter and ate the dishwasher with the tuning fork purple cow jumping over grass. Not only that but, everyone who doesn't try to fight against the perception that Americans are stupid is only helping to perpetuate that view. If people took the time to inform themselves and show that to others then not only would people think more highly of them, but things like that show wouldn't be tolerated.

i'm trying to understand what your saying here and i'm not quite understanding. are you saying that americans that defend ourselves from the opinion that we're stupid are only increasing that view? or are you saying that people that don't defend themselves from that view are only increasing that view?

Because if you mean it the first way then that makes absolutely no logical sense at all. that's like me calling you retarded (which by the way i'm not just using an example) and then when you say that your not I respond by saying "see he defended himself hence he's retarded".

but if you mean the second way then I agree completly....i think i saw somebody earlier in this thread say something similar to the first but i can't remember for sure.....

Spaces help people read your post. Along with actually making sense. It's not a matter of us clearly reading your posts. It's more of a matter of you clearly writing it.

That first paragraph is just ignorant. I don't really know what else to say about that. Cept right now every friggin canadian that I've seen post in this thread is doing the exact thing they are claiming americans do. Assume too much and claim they are better.

BTW Terror what do you think we have been doing in this entire thread? Not defending America's intelligence by proving that Fox News isn't out main PoV?

That first "paragraph" is hilarious and is just making this whole thing out to be hypocrisy... If I were you I'd take that last sentence and follow it yourself.

I'm not assuming, I'm just basing it off my experience.

Here, I'll separate my sentences so you can read them more easily.

Since you apparently can't read a short paragraph.

The internet is not representative of reality.

If you actually read the other posts, it would be clear that Canadians are on average more informed or intelligent or "better". It's only the small difference of not doing it publicly so we don't put out the perception that we are idiots.

Oh, that was two sentences together....

    Was that too long?

    My bad.

i'd still like to see where your coming from with the previous statement...

as far as closing the thread i don't feel like it's been over the top until the last couple posts. If we can keep it civil then we should be fine. but if the rudeness continues the absolutely close it down.

All this thread did was confirm everything the people on fox news mocked. Thanks for proving them right!
