I just figured EVE would have tanked due to the fact they had their source code released, I heard they were not doing too well, and BoB disbanded...

Most games that have been out for a while are dying games IMO, so its nothing personal when I say EVE is dying. I merely am saying its past its prime and there are better games to look foward too IMHO.

It becomes rather exhausting to trudge through disassembled quote-fests.

BoB disbanded because they were killed and replaced, not because they decided just to stop playing.

Just the clients source code. Then CCP told us that the clients code can be easily decompiled and has since released several updates. March 10 we are having the next major expansion (CCP has been releasing 2 major expansions each year since release). So the client source code doesn't matter.

The only sources I have for Eves numbers are http://www.mmogchart.com (look at the 200'000+ and 70'000-700'000 charts), which rate the Eve numbers at its highest level of reliability, showing that Eves subscription numbers have always been increasing and the CCP press releases which agree with that number.

How can a game be considered dying while the number of people playing it is increasing ?

MMOG Chart also only lists 6 MMOs with a higher population than Eve, but it only lists the MMOs that they can find reliable numbers for.
That was an act of espionage. BoB literally reformed their alliance the next day under a new name (though they are losing space) and the other major alliances don't seem to be having issues.
True, most only last a few years. But all the evidence I've seen says that Eve isn't one of them.
We shall see how well they do once they are released.

while I agree EVE isn't dying.. those numbers, I would bet are actually a little smaller due to the fact a lot of people run more then one account. This is true for any game though..

I would be VERY interested to know, not how many subscriptions there are, but just how many people are behind them.

except wow has mechanics in place to prevent it in starting areas: undisputed zones don't require a pvp flag
melee swings hit the current target
aoe/multi attacks don't hit pvp opponents unless you are flagged.

now, i do miss the old snake trap on a lowbie making them flag accidentally, but that was patched. only thing left for non-flagged ganking is to pull mobs to an escorted npc and watch them die trying or fail and then steal the escort quest on reset.

    stuff you want to say

Ah I did not know that Neptuno. I remember back in the day when you could just AoE someone who was pvp'd and get rolled. Good times indeed.

    LMAO Excellent post Kyoji.

But how often does that group have a chance against the ganker ?
And how long will it stop the ganker for ?

Because the beta leak videos showed low skilled characters but didn't mention the tutorial.
But what is protecting the noobs in those areas from being ganked ?
If the ganking in the noob areas is too heavy, it will drive away too many players.

Yes, currently everyone is new to Darkfall. But everyone is still new to Darkfall in about 6 months then there are problems even worse than noobs being ganked out of the game, because players aren't sticking around.

When I joined XoO:GW new members were required to of completed Prophesies before they would be considered. As new chapters came out the requirements changed to owning all chapters and having completed one of them.

I also remember that both WoW and RFO had entry requirements at one point, though I'm not sure if they still do.

So how long before Xen or one of the other guilds starts putting restrictions on players ?

Assuming that you could get out of the starting station to start the tutorial.

I think you are missing the point about a pvp entirely and you keep asking the same questions worded slightly different.

I any MMO there never have been any problems with people getting into guilds, pvp or pve. Even after 6 months to a year into the game. Not every guild puts requirements on their apps. Does this mean they suck? Probably, but it also means they have numbers which counter the suck. Smart people use these guilds until they meet the requirements and then join the leet skillzor ones that go around ganking noobies.

Guard towers and other players. But yet again that goes back to friends and battle parties,(PvP.........).

I enjoy repeating myself as much as you do it seems so I'll say it again. It's a pvp game which people who enjoy pvp play. This means it doesn't matter how long the ganker is removed from the situation because it's part of the game. Besides for someone who claims to have seen the beta leak videos you fail to mention that in almost every one of them all the naked noobs end up zerging down the higher level(or in darkfalls case skilled) player. So therefore countering everything you've mentioned up till now.

Contrary to your belief there isn't only one guild out there for everyone. If they don't make it into it they can find another. Most people find guilds before they even step into the game.

6 months down the road I think people will be a bit too busy, minus the occasional ganker which can be easily dealt with, to hang around the newbie areas.

    Redundant posts ftw

PVP game, all of them have ganker problems, all of them have succeeded according to mass followings and fanbois. Darkfall is hardcore in this case. I have yet to hear anyone from the beta complaining about newbie gankers btw.

I know many people don't like xfire numbers, but I had noticed EVE going up a couple months ago while Warhammer was going down (LotR was the other one that started way down but is now regularly above Warhammer)

I hope Darkfall works out for you all, I know what it's like to wait a really long time for a game... :)

yeah, it was a sad day when my snakes stopped triggering pvp flags.

i think the only thing that still happens is standing on top of NPC's hoping they will right click and accidentally auto attack instead of talking to the NPC.

I doubt many actually have preorders because the site keeps crashing and they had to turn them off. I know a lot of people are planning on getting them though. I'd say we have at least 20 Xen getting the preorder.
