Oh yeah, Chaos was a great runeword, props to bnet for that. Enigma took it a step too far, same with Infinity.

The most overpowered runeword I recall making was Duress... but then. Half the issue was that bnet wasn't entirely above board. If those ultra-rare runewords were actually as rare as they should have been, it probably wouldn't have been quite so insane...

Duress really isn't that good:
+40% Faster Hit Recovery
+10-20% Enhanced Damage (varies)
Adds 37-133 Cold Damage 2 sec. Duration (Normal)
15% Chance of Crushing Blow
33% Chance of Open Wounds
+150-200% Enhanced Defense (varies)
-20% Slower Stamina Drain
Cold Resist +45%
Lightning Resist +15%
Fire Resist +15%
Poison Resist +15%

Where as something like this would be a bit....:
50% Chance To Cast Level 20 Chain Lightning When You Kill An Enemy
Level 12 Conviction Aura When Equipped
+35% Faster Run/Walk
+255-325% Enhanced Damage (varies)
-(45-55)% To Enemy Lightning Resistance (varies)
40% Chance of Crushing Blow
Prevent Monster Heal
0.5-49.5 To Vitality (Based on Character Level)
30% Better Chance of Getting Magic Items
Level 21 Cyclone Armor (30 Charges)

And FYI, the conviction aura negs 85 to fire lightning and cold resist to all enemies, as well as -83% defense.

Also, this one is really easy to make and every class can have it as their sword and shield:
For swords:
+2 To All Skills
+25-35% Faster Cast Rate (varies)
+55% Faster Hit Recovery
Adds 1-50 Lightning Damage
Adds 3-14 Cold Damage 3 Second Duration (Normal)
+75 Poison Damage Over 5 Seconds
7% Life Stolen Per Hit
+250 Defense Vs. Missile
+22 To Vitality
+89-112 To Mana (varies)
+3-8 Magic Absorb (varies)

For shields:
+2 To All Skills
+25-35% Faster Cast Rate (varies)
+55% Faster Hit Recovery
+250 Defense Vs. Missile
+22 To Vitality
+89-112 To Mana (varies)
Cold Resist +35%
Lightning Resist +35%
Poison Resist +35%
+3-8 Magic Absorb (varies)
Attacker Takes Damage of 14

Not that good indeed - which is a big part of the point, nobody ever gets the runes for an Infinity without trading for them, and 99% of super-high runes are probably illegitimate now. The ones that weren't, well, I doubt the original owners would let go of them too fast.

I do have three Spirits though, and I have to admit they might be more significant items than a Duress. Insight is nice to have but not really overpowered...

A HR is usually around 40-60FG, Infinity would be around 150FG, a PGEM is roughly 0.7-0.9FG and a SOJ would be around 50-60FG.

What's telling is that HRs are much, much rarer in the actual game than 50 pgems. I have something in the range of 300 pgems on USEast, and no HRs at all.

It's not about rarity, it's about demand.
The demand for a PGEM is so high because that's roughly the ratio to which you can roll a skill charm of equivalent FG for, for instance you can roll a +skill 2# life charm and sell for 150 pgems, which is pretty much the odds to roll one with a high level GC to get your starter roll.

Man are they back to PGems for the currency? I remember it went from like SoJ's to chipped gems, to PGems, back to SoJ's etc... lol

Good times in this game. When D3 comes out it would be a good time to let D2 die finally. It had a good run.

Chip gems are very low currency, just because you need them to transmute HRs, but a lot of HR's are actually worth LESS if you transmute them, so I think chips went out of style.

But yeah, you can use SoJ, PGem or FG as currency, mostly because SoJ and PGem both have pretty static FG values.

Pgems seem to be the "low-end" currency. HRs, keys and organ sets are more commonly used at the high end. Haven't seen SoJ myself, or FG obviously since I don't use d2jsp.

I stumbled across this. The numbers in it are wrong but its a fun read:

http://www.diablowiki.net/Dol_Rune_Conspiracy

If you go to the original thread he event states it was a joke, but still not a bad idea a for a release date.

The idea is 09/09/09 or 999 is 666 upside down and that will be the release date.

I think it's pretty clever and if I was Blizzard I would try to make it that date. Even if I had it ready by July, I would just sit on it/promote it until September.

I have my doubts Blizzard will have it ready for prime-time quite that fast, considering how long they've spent on Starcraft 2. But who knows? They might do it.

Buy it here:
http://www.nerdyshirts.com/diablo-iii.html

"Remember the color controversy? Its most enduring legacy, besides possibly spawning the concept of the D3 secret non-cow level, may turn out to be the “rainbows and unicorns†t-shirts the D3 Team wore at Blizzcon 2008. Those shirts were made custom for Blizzard, and have never (and will never) be offered for sale to the public.

You still want one though, and here’s the next best thing. The enterprising entrepreneurs at Nerdy Shirts have taken the source image, recolored it to remove the pastels (which sort of defeats the point?), and they’re selling the result on a t-shirt for $14.50. If you want one you might want to order quickly; there’s no telling how Blizzard’s lawyers will react to this one. The image on the shirt is shown below; click it to go to the order page.

Update from the comments: They’ve added a coupon code just for Diii.net readers. Enter “D3Nerd†with your order for 20% off (a $3 savings). Offer expires Monday the 23rd."Source

Blizzcast #8

http://eu.blizzard.com/blizzcast/archive/episode8.xml

There are some new screen shots and information.

Inventory will be tabbed. This will be similar to WAR where there will be an item tab, Runes/gems/scroll tab, and a Quest Item Tab.

Items still take 1 'square' in your inventory and you inventory will be able to be increased as you move through the game. Items will show size within the square. So if you look at the square a belt will look smaller than a polearm, but they both take the same 'space'.

Barb's Fury is going to be similar to GW's Adrenaline. There are 3 stages or whatever. There is a video of it building up on the link. There are three stages of it. You can see it in this screen shots. the 3 smaller circles will fill up.
